Checked with H/O mazda tecknical section and the illusive long promised correct MAZDA OIL for the rx8 is finally expected to arrive to your dealer hopefully by christmas, hooray .

According to the tecknician the CORRECT OIL FOR THE RX8 IS A NATURAL MINERAL BASED OIL .5W -30.

NOT SYNTHETIC OR SEMI SYNTHETIC , so we all have been using the incorect type of oil in the crucial running in period of our cars .

I rang the service manager from my dealership ,and want my oil changed as soon as the natural mineral oil gets to them from japan .

Apparently it takes up to 15,000 km for the seals in the rx8 to bed in , i wonder how using the incorrect oil in my case for over 10,000 km will effect the seals ???

Hard to believe that we have been allowed to use the wrong oil in our cars .

Everything that I have read on this forum (that is, everything that has been written without hysteria or paranoia) suggests that the problem with synthetics is a long term one, and has to do with incomplete combustion as they are more resistant to oxidation. In terms of lubricity, the synthetics are probably superior to the naturally-derived oils, so if anything the seals are probably going to take a little longer to bed in.

Any informed comments on this?

There used to be the theory that the best oil to run your engine in with was the cheapest of the shit from super cheap. Then use the good oil after that. I don't know how much the "rotary mystery" changes that.

I see lots of merit in Labrats remarks. And the stock oil is so thin it is probably considered "piss weak" for running in purposes.

Like I have said more than once in this place, there are more myths about oil than about sex. And L&L can sort us out on any of the ones about sex :p

There is one fact though - Any oil is better than no oil :eek:
