View Full Version : Tein H-Techs or Mazdaspeed springs?

I've been thinking about dropping the car now. But I'm worried about scrapage so I don't think I want to drop it that much (no S-Techs). So I'm looking at these two options.

Problem is, I dunno what to pick based on spring rates. The numbers on the Mazdaspeeds look like they might destroy my back. The look I think might be a bit better though with the H-Techs, but the MS springs do have a less of a drop. Check link below to see spring rates. What do you guys think?

I don't want to destroy my bumper :(

If I were going to chose I would take htechs with koni shocks........but I am currently running the s-techs with stock shocks. H techs will be closet to the ride quality you have now with a very slight drop. mazdaspeed springs are ( from what I have heard ) very firm.....if you look at the link you sent they are much more firm then the s-techs and I would not go more firm then the ride with my s-techs.....plus the way the drop is on the h-tech will level out the look of your car as our cars sit slightly lower in the back.....lowering the front a little more make the wheel gaps look more evened out.

If you run MS springs, you must pair them up with aftermarket shocks (preferably the MS shocks.

It is not recommended to run the MS springs on stock shocks because they are far too mismatched.

The H-tech's on stock shocks will work very well. You can even consider the Racing Beat springs on stock shocks. You can see Kevin (Agent008)'s ride as a sample.

I am personally going to Eibachs spring 2009. No point doing it now cause winter is coming.

Don't you think it might be too much of a drop? 1.2 front and 0.8 rear? I'm worried about going more than 1" in the front.

Didn't the claim that MS springs had super high rates get busted? My ride isn't bad on MS springs and Koni shocks.

Thief,

Why are you even considering just springs?! You've got the cash! Go with the Mazdaspeed Coilovers! Problem solved! :)

I am going for eibach pro + the shinka/R3 bliesten if I can get a hand on those cheap....

I am too lazy to adjust those TIEN stuff at the track...and also, read the following links if you got time...biased maybe, but a very good read (from a guy who dynoed a couple of hundred shocks, representing the spread of almost every shock brand extant...)

Buying Shocks
Remember this list:
Bilstein
Penske
Koni
Ohlins
Sachs
Dynamic Suspension
Not on this list? Almost certainly crap.

I agree with neo...high end coilovers and adjustable shocks so you can tighten things up for the track. I will be driving mine in the winter so I need the coilovers to lift it back up.

I'm gonna do the KW Variant 3 Coilovers or Tein Mono Flex and the electronic damping controls.

I had Eibachs springs on my old car, liked them, good ride and nice drop.

Thief,

Honestly, as if you had to ask. This is a sports car. The only way to improve the suspension is by getting those coilovers. Quit stalling and get the Mazdaspeed coilovers already! :D:

Neo,

I'm going with Eibachs first and see how it's like, when the shocks go, I'm planning to go full MS (shocks, springs, sways) and sell the Eibachs.
I came to a realization that in reality, the difference between 1.2" and 1.4" or even 1.0" is really really small!!

So I've stopped worrying about the aesthetic differences of all these spring ride heights.

Eibach = 1.2"F / 0.8" R
MS = 0.8"F / 0.8" R

0.4" ~= 1 cm ride height diff is barely noticable to the naked eye.

Why wont you listen...............................EIBACH PRO-KIT with your stock shocks.

I have heard good things about eibach....had them on my first car and they were nice, plus you know that , Al is it??, knows what he's talking about.....really, If I was going to keep my car...first off I wouldn't have sold off almost 5k worth of parts and I would have gone with some aftermarket shocks for adjustability with lowering springs.....If you spent the cash on the MS body kit....no point in skimping now......if you're gonna do something, do it right once. I would have gone a much different route with this car If I had to do it again, do it right, save the cash if you need to and have no regrets.

only problem is that those coilovers (maybe except KW) all rusted to bits in winter and its PITA to lift after first two winters...

You guys dont get it!!! Coil overs are not for the street! They do not have any rubber mounts no insulators etc. You have a METAL or ALLOY threaded collar and a METAL or ALLOY perch/adjuster. The corrode and seize up. Every set we see here the people come back within months to get them uninstalled. We are at the point where we wont sell them anymore.

I would not change just the spring thats a waste of money. Go with RB Spring & Koni shocks

There is a huge controversy about the rear drop height of the Eibach Prokits. I have done all the research there is available and even called Eibach directly for an answer. Here are some facts I want to share:

A) Last year when I looked at Eibach Pro Kit for RX-8, the website said 1.2" F and 1.2" R.

B) This year when I looked, it says 1.2" F and 0.8" R.

C) Googling online for distributors and sellers of the kit revealed that some stores are advertising it as 1.2F and 1.2R, and others are advertising it as 1.2F and 0.8R (i.e. Tirerack).

D) Searching for an answer on rx8club forum yielded no definite conclusion to the rear drop height.

E)
- I called Eibach directly, asked if the part number had ever changed and their answer was NO.
- I asked them about the advertisment last year showing 1.2"R and they said it could have been a mistake.
- I asked if there was a manufacturing update (i.e. version 2) on those springs such that the product code would be kept, but the design was different, and they said no.
- I asked what is the front and rear drop of the springs and they confirm it is 1.2" F and 0.8" R.

Now swoope, I'm not trying to prove you wrong or anything, I just want to get to the bottom of it if even possible, but you seem to be so sure that your rears are 1.2" dropped and not 0.8". The difference between 1.2" and 0.8" (I work in metric so it's easier for me to visualize) is only approx 1.0 cm. Can that 1.0 cm deviation arise from usage overtime and settling? Can you post some pics directly to this thread?

Tein H Springs with Stock shocks works VERY well!! I just had mine done, with a new alignment..suggest go slightly negative in the front camber for a little better cornering (at least it feels like it)!!

OH! The Tein H springs only lowers your front by 1" NOT 1.2"...however, you STILL have to be careful with your front when parking. Otherwise, should not be any problems with bumps, etc.

Next recommendation when you blow out your stock shocks, go with Koni Sport shocks!! I plan too..can't wait!!!

well,

yes the photos are up in the spring height thread. and i did measure..

last weekend i added a extra set of spring pearches to raise the rear up 3/8".

it worked fine.. several of us that have put on eibachs got the same 1.2 1.2 drop. btw, have never seen anyone put them on that got anything different..

right now my fender height is at 26" at all four corners.. before it was 25.5" in the rear.

http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=158035

my car is the eibach on dspecs and same with the rear raised up 3/8".

hope that helps.

if you want me to take some different photos send me a pm..

19x9.5 +36 rear

now granted...i dont track the car...
so it depends on what you wanna do with it...
if you want a pic..let me know..

PS...i believe you cant use the MS springs without changin out the shocks too

i dont think any stock shock would be good with anything that drops the car....

as to the photos, here you go..

they are not from the direct side, but it is what i have.. right now after the raise i have 26" at all fenders. perfect. the .5" at the rear makes a bit difference..

alignment monday. track weekend nov 8,9.

btw, my wheels, my photos, the eibach questions have been a huge hijack..

maybe i should start a thread called the eibach truth vs myth!

nice to see you around! :)

Yeah swoope, I'm tempted to send your scientific measurements (as those are facts) to Eibach and see what they say about the 0.8" Rear drop vs. 1.2" Rear drop.

The reason why I held back on them last year was because of the 1.2" Rear drop

Ever think the guy who installed them reversed them by mistake? They all look the same and I have seen it happen many times.
