View Full Version : A road made for the RX8 Geek 12-03-2003, 06:32 PM http://www.tailofthedragon.com/dragon.html :D mikeb 12-03-2003, 07:26 PM time for a road trip Gord96BRG 12-03-2003, 08:41 PM Deal's Gap is famous with the Miata crowd - there's several unofficial gatherings there every year, but the biggest annual gathering (last weekend of July) always sees over 100 Miata converge there. I've heard lots of great stories (of the gatherings and of the road), but have never made it there. Some year... Regards, Gordon Texas 8 12-03-2003, 10:04 PM Don't know if you guys seen the map in there or not. Check it out. I might have to make a little trip to do a little testing of my own. http://www.tailofthedragon.com/maps/DRAGONmap.gif eccles 12-04-2003, 01:50 AM I'm sure the Dragon is fun, and it's possibly the best fun twisty in the USA, but for the ultimate fun give me european alpine passes. Several years ago I spent a couple of weeks driving through central Europe, including three days traversing every little twisty I could find in the French, Austrian, Swiss and Italian Alps. Of course, the granddaddy of them all is the Stelvio Pass with it's 40-something hairpins on either side: http://www.snikte.net/images/stelvio.jpg If only I'd had something more satisfying to drive than the little Fiat Uno that I had rented. megauo 12-04-2003, 04:26 PM I assure you three days are just too few to travell all the twisty roads in all those countries... Anyway I would recommend the following: Austria - lake Silvretta (31 numbered hairpins, 3000+ ft elevation) - Gross Glockner (brake test route for all european car makes) - route 99 Switzerland - Furka Pass (I would recommend hotel Tiefenbach to stay for some time) - grand St Bernard to Italy Italy - picc St bernardo to France France - Col' de Iseran - Col' de Telegraph - Col' de Golubier - Col' de la Bonette - Col' de Vars Have fun! I recently toured these passes in the summer and had great time. I just can't wait to do this again with the 8 ;-) |
