View Full Version : Could someone tell me how to install an afr CraigRX8 10-08-2008, 04:37 PM Its a narrow band, what do i need to do. Silver06 10-08-2008, 05:00 PM Uhmmmmm...... I think / hope you mean a WIDEband Afr. ????? A narrowband AFR O2 sensor is like a 'switch' that turns off or on, depending on an air/fuel ratio of about 14:1. These are used by car manufacturers from stock to cheaply change the computer's map to lean out the car when it senses a rich condition. If you hook up a guage to it, the gauge would only show voltage or no voltage. A wideband AFR O2 sensor is like a 'dimmer' for lights. it supplies a variable voltage to (lets say) a gauge. The gauge converts the voltage signal to numbers that your tuner can use to stop you grenading your engine by running too lean. Narrowband O2 sensors mostly have 3 wires; widebands mostly have 5 wires. Wideband sensors are matched to the gauge package, and are usually sold with the guages. For a Wideband, you will need to weld / drill / tap a bung into the exhaust (upstream from the cat), and then install the O2 sensor; then wire the gauge according to the instructions. HOWEVER, You are in luck - the RX-8 already has a wideband sensor built-in. You can either buy a gauge package that plugs into the OBD port, or better yet, buy an AccessPort rom Mazdamaniac - it will display AFR's. With the above, you have lots of searching keywords available to you. CraigRX8 10-11-2008, 11:17 AM where can i get my signal for the oxygen sensor from? |
