Decided to plug my car phone charger into the cigareete socket to recharge my phone after 10 minutes i smelt a toxic wire type smell low and behold my charger was red hot and starting to melt quick evasive action stopped it from melting away into the astray area smell was quite toxic luckily i noticed the smell straight away , so there seems to be no further damage apart from a melted charger .
As the charger is under 1year old i returned it to the phone shop , they werent keen on replacing it but they finally gave in , i saved myself 19 dollars , on purchasing an upgraded model .
Has anyone else had this happen to them??

I'm using the both the sockets all of the time, charging phone, bluetooth headset and ipod. no problems at all.
what brand failed you?

Siemmens phone and charger , are you going to change your avatar to MARK ANTHONY ? Cleoprata was one wicked lady .
But she could handle snakes ha ha ha .
She was certainly a great seductress .
Same brand charger/phone as me. Mine's been no bother.
I'd probably come last in a Richard Burton lookalike contest :(

one theory could be the extra energy generated by the high friction characteristics of the yellow duco ....
As I said .. just one theory
Seriously .... I wonder if there is a problem with your generator ....... the car can probably cope with 14 volts but the charger may not
BTW ... my charger (nokia) seems fine

I've used Nokia and Ericcson, one in each spot often... no problem.
PS. I've also installed the Ericcson Bluetooth Handsfree Kit... works brilliantly!

I have a bluetooth kit as well, but notice that in certain locations (near the airport, Homebush Bay) the connection between the phone and the kit gets knocked out. Asked the dealer who says it is RF interference, but I am sceptical…:(

Haven't had any dropout problems yet.... I'll keep an eye on it!
