Hi Everyone,
I'm looking for some advice on whether to buy an RX-8 I checked out over the weekend. This will be my first 8 and also the first time buying a used car, so I'm not really sure what to look for. Well, the 8 was at a Ford dealership and was listed as a local car, no accidents with ~66000kms. I thoroughly inspected the exterior of the car and didn't notice anything wrong with it... very clean. Everything inside (air con, stereo, windows, etc.) seemed to be working fine and on the test drive, the engine was smooth and responsive.
Everything seemed to be fine with the car, until I got the ICBC Claims Info. The report revealed that "glass" had been repaired a couple times at ~$850 each and that it had been in a couple of collisions. One collision at ~$1800 in repairs and the other with no details at all (in the "amount paid" and "nature of payment" columns of the report, it says "no details"). The dealer said these collisions were minor at under $2000 in damages, which allows them to advertise the car with "no accidents." I asked if I could have the car inspected at a Mazda dealership, but he said he could have that done at the Ford dealership (143 point inspection), which would save me a hundred bucks.
So, I'm wondering, should I avoid this car? Or are the dealer's claims legit and I should seriously consider this car? Any advice on what I can do to get more info on this car?
TIA
