i feel kinda of stupid asking but i want to learn how to drive a stick car. from what i hear, theres tricks and ways to use a stick..i.e. move from gear 3 to gear 1 with one shift..(jus tmade that up for example)
so how do you do it..like accelerate, then when the car hits certain number, u press clutch and switch gears?...and how do you shift down,,like how do you know when or when not to shift down..do you judge by the speed ur going at?

wow, dude, its a little more complicated than that, have u ever rode with someone riding on manual??, if not, learn it from someone, if you wanna see some action, go and see some videos from bestmotoring, they show racers and how their feet work with manuals

find somebody with a manual transmission car, and ride around with them.
haha i don't think best motoring would be a good idea, too much heel-toe going on. it would just confuse him

Well, this is the way I do it:
From a standing start (whether you want to go to first or reverse),make sure the transmission is in neutral, depress the clutch all the way down, shift to either first or reverse, give the car a LITTLE gas and SLOWLY release the clutch. The release of the clutch should be proportional to the amount of gas you are giving the car.
To shift into a higher gear:
You willl know when to shift when you hear your engine revving loudly or when the tachometer APPROACHES (do not wait until redline to shift unless you want to buy a new engine and transmission every other day) redline. Then depress the clutch all the way, shift into the next higher gear, then give gas as you release the clutch. Repeat until you are in 5th or 6th.
To shift into a lower gear:
You will know when to downshift when the tachometer is low or if you don't have one, when the engine sounds like its really...slow (I don't know, I should be doing a final thesis for my design class right now), repeat the same process, but instead go from the higher gear to the lower gear, making sure that the gear change will be feasible (i.e. do NOT go from 6th to 1st at 110 mph)
Thats the gist of it.
