Hi everyone, on October 18, 2008 we will be attending the Children's Wish Foundation Charity Ride-Along at Moports Grand Prix track with either a Mazdaspeed 6. The purpose for this event is to take you around the track in a high performance or race car and give you a 1st hand taste of what its all about. We would have bolted the passenger seat in the race car but you all know...............The cost is only $20.00 for 3 laps and its for a real worthwhile cause! It would be great to have a bunch of RX8 guys show up and support the cause!

Can I follow you in my rx8 with my track tires? :P

But regardless, I am just as happy doing my photo duty...:)

Sorry Josh, you have to have a race license and have lots of track experience at Mosport to drive on this day. You can volunteer your car instead of me using a Speed 6 though.........

I have class A race license in GT2, GT3, GT4, and getting my class B in GT 5 Prologue LOLz

I am ok if we can have like 2-3 rx8 so we can share the wear and tear...I just need to record a lap :P

Let me think think...

There was a RX-8 there last year. In years past there were a ton of Ferraris. The line-up is getting longer and longer each year, so you need to get there early and bring lots of cash. The weather usually sucks though, so let's hope it'll be nice this year.

Well last year (http://gallery.mac.com/dave.lacey#100183&bgcolor=black&view=grid)they have the following cars:
Audi R8
Ford GT
Ferrari F430
Ferrari Testarooooosa
Porsche GT3 RS

The list is growing every year...

Moreover, if you are interested in going to the Mosport track next season, this is a GREAT chance 'cause:

1)People who drove you in the track ARE licensed race driver (requirement for any driver of that day):
License Requirement: Drivers are required to have a valid ASN/FIA license and need to have documented experience at the Mosport road course for insurance purposes. Please provide this information on the driver registration form.

2)It only cost you $25 to have 2 laps in one of the exotics. The gas alone worth more than that, not speaking of engine / tires wear...

3)You can learn the lines and the track beforehand without any fear of damaging your own car. Or you can spend 350 on top of another 300 on your first driving class .... the saving is crazy.

4)Its for charity, Karma's a bitch. Imagine all the trees you killed / energy you wasted by driving a Rx-8 instead of a Coroooooooooolla. What would Jesus do? He will pay for his pollution...

I am definitely going.

The majority of those high end exotics were only lapping the morning for the kids. Come noon time when it was opened to the public, alot of them took off.
I think the F430 was the only one that stuck around.
The Ford GT, the R8 and even the GT3RS didn't take to the track in the afternoon.

I guess they didn't want their interiors messed up. :(

I hope this year some of them will stick around to offer drives.

Also, since the lineup is very long, and there are alot of cars on the track that aren't Ferrari's, it's first come first serve. Meaning you can't wait in line just to ride in a Ferrari. If a "regular" Porsche 911 comes up, you're going to get in it. Otherwise you lose your spot in the lineup.

Last year there were only 2-3 Ferrari's that were lapping in the afternoon. The rest were a mixture of 911's, some race cars (stripped out Civic, some BMW's, and America muscle) with the odd "lesser" sports car tossed in the mix. Such as a Corvette Z06 (driven by an Indycar driver no less!), 350Z, RX-8, Aston Martin (more like a luxury cruise around the track).

So be prepared to wait in line and hopefully you've got your sequence right so you can get a ride in a car of your dreams. :)

thx neo for the update...

To me its the drive to the balls experience + any track time learning Mosport...even in a "lesser" 911 is great.

Moreover, those race car are MUCH MUCH faster (ie, GTA,GTB,GTC class) than those stock Z06...so yeah, if you're not a brand snob (just a speed junkie), its even better!

My suggestion is to skip the flashy cars and go for the stripped race cars. Do the Ferrari/Lambo thing once so you can tell people you've rode in one before, but the race car rides are 10x more memorable, assuming you have the stomach for high G-force and a potential trip in the ambulance. :shocking: :o:

I kind of wish more CASC race cars would show up for this event. But the problem we've found is a lot of the kids (mostly the boys) want the flashy rides instead of the ratty old race cars. But when it comes time to the public hours, you need the race cars to keep the line moving to raise charity cash. Otherwise everyone will hang on to their one $25 ticket and hold out for the Ferraris.

btw the person who drove blue RX-8 last year, are you on this forum? People actually liked the RX-8 last year and it got gawked at quite a bit when it pulled in the pitlane. I was expecting the usual e-thug hater comments about oil consumption and bad MPG, but I guess Joe Blow on the street don't have the same silly prejudices.

Neo

No doubt there will be alot of drivers who know the track like the back of their hands. But as mentioned before, alot of people go there to support the kids and to get a ride in a car they won't be able to afford in their life time.
Which means alot of people wait for the Ferrari's, Audi R8's, and Ford GT's if they're available.

The stripped out race cars do provide you with more fun provided the driver is alright going around the track at 85-95% speed. Majority of the time they hold off because "they don't want to surprise the regular drivers in their street vehicles".

Last year the fastest car lapping the track was the Corvette Z06 driven by the Indycar driver. He was going so fast, everytime he stopped to get another person in the car, he would jump out, check the tire pressures, made sure the brakes were alright, and then jump back in. He was very fanatical about keeping the car as close to neutral as possible.

I just hope to see some truly exotic stuff this year round. It seems like the "regulars" show up with the odd "rare" car. For example the Ford GT. That sucker was there but only for the morning. It left before the afternoon session started.

In all the years going to this event I have yet to see a Lambo show up. For some strange reason they're very scared of the track. It's more of a "poser" car than track vehicle.

If the weather turns bad you won't be seeing too many Ferrari's lapping. The Porsches on the other hand go balls to the wall when it rains! Really exciting stuff!

Make sure you take a jacket. It's always cold this time of the year at Mosport. :)

Assuming 50% bail out rate...oh well.

Weather will be nice, and you get a good sense of the track that is the holy grail for a lot of track junkies in Toronto...

I am in.

The blue RX8 driver was a guy named Paul Viera who is a very accomplished hard core racer. His racing style is balls to the wall and flat out every lap. In his 2nd gen P.Port race car he runs laps in the 1:30 range! The car has been lightened even further and is now on its way to the Caribbean for the championships down there. I dont believe he is coming this year.

I don't like the set up as neo described :( and it's more expensive than originally quoted, 2 laps for $25 instead of 3 laps for $20 and you have no idea what car you are gonna get in. :(

Thumper,

You have to remember this is for charity. And nothing is written in stone.
You might have to pay $25 for "3 laps" but alot of the times they go around longer than 3 laps. It really depends on the driver you have.
Also, not many people get the chance to ride in a sports/luxury car of their dreams. Especially at track speeds.

I hope this year we'll be able to see some more exotics come out to play. I know alot of the "regulars" will be there. But hopefully a few surprises will show up.

Thief,
Don't get me started on your car!! :p:

Not very exciting doing 50km/h in a ferrari on the backstraight even though the sound is great...right? :)

I know and hear ya Neo, but I was interested when I thought I could go for a lap in an 8 with Al drivin it I really wanted to feel one be drivin the way it can be drivin and the all famous race car. Ah well

Neo

Well, Al will be there. So you can hitch a ride with him to experience what it's like to have the car at race speed.
I doubt Al will turn you down. ;)

I am going for the speed...since I've already experienced first hand with Al going after that Mazdaspeed Rx8 in my own stock car (with Mazdaspeed exhaust) in Mosport (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=155458)...and man I wish I could record the video but I was shitting my pants at the time lolz

You have experienced it and that is what I was looking forward to. I'm not to worried about the other cars, I have been in some fast one's at 300+km, just not an 8 kickin ass around the track. That's all.

alot of the times they go around longer than 3 laps. It really depends on the driver you have.

A couple of years ago I got 10 laps in a Ferrari since I was the last person of the day. Another time we must have lapped for 25 minutes because the driver was sick of dealing with little brats, and I indicated that I had the stomach for high speed. So we stayed out on the track and did a bunch of hot laps.

Np Al, the honor is mine. This is always one of the things I want to do in life before I die...Motorsports activities.

I realized now why Ernest Hemingway said "Auto racing, bull fighting, and mountain climbing are the only real sports … all others are games." - at least for the Auto racing part. and yes, I am gonna try bull fighting eventually lol

Even though its too expensive for me, I found this racing on ZERO budget a very cool thing...and it grows me some balls to admit that I drive like shxt so I can improve.

Anyway, I am still pissed off at the girl bailing me out for the cruise tomorrow... #$^@$%&^
