so what's up with me having to pay ANYTHING, mind you it's only 4 bucks a day, when my car is being repaired under warranty? It's a crappy chevy cavalier rental, but at least it's a new one I guess. I think Mazda should pay for the ENTIRE bill, not just a percentage.

Discuss please.

Everytime I've had any service work done my rental has been 100% free. They do ask if I want the optional insurance which would cost extra but I turn it down.

Well if you have to pay any money at all for a rental, do what i do........Get your moneys worth!! For me that means reverse to about 3k RPM and drop that sucker into drive and enjoy the smell of burning rubber....and also take every turn 15-20 mph more than usual. Drive it the way you would never be able to drive your own car. Unless of course youre a nice person and dont want to abuse your situation.

driving a crappy ass car is not worth the time. i got a POS ford escort and it was old '02. It was like driving an econobx and trust me, taking a turn at 20mph with that car will make it flip over! :)

well I punch it at every stop, but it just isn't that fun. And it turns corners like crap. There isn't much I can do with it...it's so dull and boring it FORCES you to drive safely =\. I farted in it though

rental should be free, unless they slipped in some extra insurance when you weren't looking. They did that to me, and I still got them to take it off the bill when I came back.

Exactly what I was thinking. If that bad boy is in under warranty service, then the "loaner car program" ought to include full coverage of whatever they offer for you to drive (and something comparable to what you own). My take on it is this - if you're still paying for your car but aren't in possession of it because they're having to work on it, then it would only be fair for them to give you something somewhat equivalent of your car.

I mean, it's not like the RX-8 is Mazda's flagship car or anything, right? :D

For my loaner car I got a crappy '02 Ford Escort and they expected me to fill up the gas to the same level when I first checked it out. They also charged me an extra $10 because I was under 21. They said it was the car rental company's policy and Mazda only pays up to $30 a day for car rental. What BS, just because I'm 19 they are discriminating against my age. I bought the RX-8 just like any other individual. I should be entitled to free car loan. It not my fault the car had a bad tire pressure monitor. And now I 'm paying the price for a faulty vehicle having to be serviced on my own expense. Also the Escort was the crappiest car I've ever driven. No power windows, no power doorlocks, the A/C makes a rattling noise everytime I turn it on. This is ridiculous! Atleast give me a civic or something!

BTW, if anyone knows a good dealership in Socal that does good service and gives out good loaner car to under 21. Please let me know. I am tired of Anaheim Mazda giving me the runaround. see this if you haven't already read it.

My thoughts exactly. It isn't my fault the car's $2,000 Navigation System crapped out on me. In fact, I just recently realized it was broken BEFORE I even purchased it. The tilt button does not work correctly, but I didn't realize it until I read the manual to figure out why the thing would stop working. So I've paid for faulty gear for over 3 months now, and now that they are fixing it, I have to pay a small fee on the rental car. No, it isn't insurance. It's just like sohcpunk said...mazda will pay up to $30 a day for the rental. The rental is costing $26 a day, plus tax, which leaves me to cover the difference, which is $4. But it's the principle that bothers me, not the money. It's not like I'm crusing around in an RX8 rental car or something...although in a perfect world, I WOULD be cruising around in my rx8. I shouldn't have to put up ANY money to return to normalcy, which I paid for.
