But I think the rice term is reserved for the asian cars or asian car wannabe's. moogle 12-02-2003, 12:50 AM Rice can be on any car. It doesn't have to be azn, a mustang can be a pos rice car 2. Rice is what you make of it. Beemer 12-02-2003, 04:44 PM Please don't make fun of kitcars. You should respect people trying to make their own car and trying to make the best of it. I have a pal who's making a Lotus super 7 replica right now, and it's really nice to see the progress. I've seen a replica Lamborghini Diablo VT once, that was better than the original one: More horsepower (supercharged chevy big blok +700hp), better suspension, less weight, same interiour quality, Full Alpine ICE system with 2 "R" 12" woofers behind the seats... for sale at half the price of the original Diablo. Building costs were about only 1/3th of the cost of the original. So please, don't say these are ricers... mental pimp 12-02-2003, 04:47 PM watch these ricers put one of these in their cheap ass civics, lambo wit a 4 cyl vtec Rolf Dick Carlson 12-02-2003, 04:52 PM Originally posted by IkeWRX Rather than rice would that be risotto? :p Very good, these other morons didn't get your joke. Ike BRx8 12-02-2003, 06:53 PM Originally posted by Beemer So please, don't say these are ricers... geez...my friend, when he was 17, bought a Ferraro (Fiero with a Ferrari Testarrosa kit)...it was a POS, to say the least... i don't know how you can say this isn't rice..."replicas" are the epitome of rice...it's worse than peeling off the badges on a Civic DX and placing red TypeR stickers on them - it's replacing the whole entire body to make it look altogether like a different car! if that wasn't rice, man, i have no idea what is... http://www.riceboypage.com/ Ike 12-02-2003, 07:15 PM Originally posted by BRx8 geez...my friend, when he was 17, bought a Ferraro (Fiero with a Ferrari Testarrosa kit)...it was a POS, to say the least... i don't know how you can say this isn't rice..."replicas" are the epitome of rice...it's worse than peeling off the badges on a Civic DX and placing red TypeR stickers on them - it's replacing the whole entire body to make it look altogether like a different car! if that wasn't rice, man, i have no idea what is... http://www.riceboypage.com/ You are very wrong my friend, it certainly depends on what kit we're talking about but there are. The thing for the Fiero sounds like nothing more than a body kit on a large scale, much like the kit above is. However, there are Cobra and Daytona replicas out there that will outperform the originals and pull 1g+ on the skidpad and can run as fast as 10s and 11s in the 1/4 while still being incredible track cars. I'm sorry but that's not rice. Sure it's not the original but those are pure performance cars quite often and a pure performance car is hard to loot at as rice. http://www.hillbankusa.com/home/home.htm http://www.factoryfive.com/ http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=26&article_id=3635&page_number=1 Dick Carlson 12-02-2003, 08:13 PM Originally posted by IkeWRX Hey, at least someone did :D So, are you on the list for the Elise, or do you plan to be? Ike Nope, I've had my quota of two Lotus, don't have to do it anymore. Saw one of the new ones at Road America in September. Quite civilized compared to the original. If I were to do something like that, it would be a Caterham. The RX-8 is just what I want, right now - a GT car with a modicum of room and excellent manners. BTW, I put a Borla on it about 2 weeks ago. Sounds great. Also, Pegasus Performance is here in KC, makers of Cobra replicas. We had a tour of their shop - very impressive, an improvement on the original without deviating from the basic design. B-Nez 12-02-2003, 08:56 PM I will agree with Ike that there are really bad kit cars and there are really awesome ones. It depends on the kit and the builder. As for these Lambos posted here - did you see the ione with the tan nterior? Rather hideous in my opinion. The center stack was horrendous, the instrument panel was absurd, and the shifter was as high as the steering wheel center! The one with the black interior was a bit of an improvement with the instrument panel and shifter, but still had that ridiculous center stack. rx-7~rx-8 12-02-2003, 09:21 PM WHY RICE ... WHY NOT NOODLES lol B-Nez 12-02-2003, 09:25 PM Originally posted by rx-7~rx-8 WHY RICE ... WHY NOT NOODLES lol Umm...I don't think so. Ike was way ahead of you with the risotto comment (I got it, too, just hadn't gotten around to posting). :p Ike 12-02-2003, 09:46 PM Originally posted by B-Nez I will agree with Ike that there are really bad kit cars and there are really awesome ones. Also, call me crazy but it looks like a bad knockoff Countach rather than a Diablo VT to me... zthang 12-02-2003, 10:19 PM Originally posted by mental pimp watch these ricers put one of these in their cheap ass civics, lambo wit a 4 cyl vtec Rolf There's a company that puts honda engines (forgot which one...some VTEC) into mini coopers moogle 12-02-2003, 11:21 PM dam Zthang is that your Z. LOOKS NICE! What kit u have on it. rx8ntexas 12-03-2003, 10:55 PM http://www.exoticreplicacars.com I chatted online with a guy from another car site (www.anythingcars.com) who bought one from these guys...he said it was awesome. I really thought about it before the 8 came out. bluesnowmonkey 12-04-2003, 12:23 AM Originally posted by Beemer Please don't make fun of kitcars. I'd never heard of them until I read this thread. I know the real ones aren't exactly mass-produced, but they have to have some kind of economy of scale going on. So is ~50% of the purchase price of a real Diablo for nothing more than a badge of authenticity? Ike 12-04-2003, 12:31 AM Originally posted by bluesnowmonkey How... how is that possible? So is ~50% of the purchase price of a real Diablo for nothing more than a badge of authenticity? I don't know about the diablo, but I know there are some scary fast GT40 (as well as Daytona and Cobras) replicas out there and they will make a Viper look like it's standing still in a race at the strip or road course. However they are few and far between and for every replica like that there are probably 10 that are not so good. sup3rbad 12-04-2003, 01:11 AM The Car and Drive review of the FFR made replica cars sound really awesome. If i had the extra cash I'd build me one. I love part that said "Bye Bye Porsche 911" Beemer 12-04-2003, 03:41 AM There's a lot of difference between ricing and kitcars, and I know there are some really crappy kits out there. But it's al about the builder. It depends on him how the car looks, if it's ricey or not. Kitcars always use donor parts from other cars. Just like the Fiero chassis. The more donor parts, the cheaper the kit. But don't judge them all the same, the diablo replica I was talking about also had a replica chassis. Maybe you should all take a look @ http://www.madabout-kitcars.com There you can see there are a lot of kitcar manufacturers for the same model kitcar. And they're all different, from cheap to expensive, from low quality to high quality. Does anyone know the Ultima GTR? It's build on the prototype chassis from the McLaren F1, with a chevy small or big blok behind the seats ;) Maybe someone who dares to build one with a 3 rotor 20b turbo? :D Omicron 12-04-2003, 10:07 AM There are some NIIIIICE kit cars out there, and ya gotta respect someone who takes the time and effort to effectively build their own car. I plan to build a 427 AC Cobra some day. Definitely not rice, although you COULD make one ricey by adding a big useless spoiler and a type R sticker, etc. :D |
