A bit more than I'd pay really, but about on par when compared to the rest of the RX-8 accessories.

When you consider that they actually do something, I think they're cheap :)

These look great, and are very functional. Anyone want to source them locally? I could find a supplier. Just have to check the lenghts and rating. Strut suppliers help with that sort of thing. Sounds like they fit to std mounting points.

I have 3 operating parameters - Price, Quality & Time. Purchasers get to choose any 2 :). But I like to dictate high quality. So I wonder where that leaves us? Hehehe.

PS - The Hymee Hood Strut will come in any colour as long as it is black ;) Buyers can purchase fancy coloured "contact" when the are covering the kids school books! Hehehe

I made a personal representation to WW shocks (the people behind "Aussie Gas Strut Company") during my lunchime today. I was going to get advice on sizing etc, and also pricing information. As you can see from the site, they are inexpensive, and they have a huge assortment of fixtures.

BUT - The expert there did not want to have anything to do with it. "Mate - that is a light-weight aluminium bonnet. We could put $40 worth of struts on there, and it could crease, and you'll have a $1500 repair bill for a new bonnet. Sorry mate - it is just to risky."

When you think about it he probably is right. Look at where they are located on the bonnet - a long way back towards the hinge point. I decided to listen to his advice - he even had a vested interest in selling me the struts. I suspect he has been caught out before, and was twice shy.

I also spoke to my trusted service manager, and he agreed. Plus he noted they would add weight to the car.

So the long and the sort of it is, this wont become a Hymee approved accessory. Sorry. I know when to listen to others advice.

But, the good thing is - you can still go and try it for yourself. Just get on to http://www.aussiegasstrutcompany.com/ and find the right struts and fittings and away you go. Just don't make the spring rate on those struts too firm, or else when you go to shut bonnet for the first time, you might end up with a new bonnet design. :eek:

PS - Sorry to be a sitck in the mud. I do like the concept. My SS did have struts - it was designed that way, but the bonnet was a lot less flexible, and made of steel. The RX-8 one is designed for light weight, and the support point is designed near the front where there are virtually no cantilever forces in play.

The advice given to you is right on , those struts can seaze or loose their tension and make life difficult and costly , the system in place is safe cost effective light ans user friendly so why change it ?? any how we all saved ourselves potential headaches and money .

$350 is a bit dear

I ensure it looks cool with a touch of Euro feel to it.

I am not sure ---- $350... another $100 or so can get me a cold air intake.

I thought we deduced that a CAI was not necessary, as the stock system is highly tuned?. But I am willing to check out your before and afters if you are willing to spend the dosh :)
