I guess I was next in line I got baited by the evo. I test drove the 8 and many other cars but I have to say the evo is alot more fun to drive IMO. Interior is a lil bluish but nothing w/little help can fix it. I still like the rx-8 don't get me wrong its a very nice car but Evo aghhh unbelievably awesome.
OH yeah i bought a silver evo. What color was yours puppy?

I think you mean me? :p I wasn't the first to "Jump Ship" as that honor goes to abusivewombat.
I have a Rally Red with the big wing and no sunroof. Don't get too frustrated with that crappy gasoline over on the west coast! Break it in easy the first 1,000 or so miles and enjoy.
Hanzo 12-01-2003, 09:07 AM Also take it easy on the brakes for 700 miles.
Shocka 12-01-2003, 11:01 AM nice i almost bought an evo before i got the 8.. ill admit im jealous.. i wish i could afford both. as soon as i finish paying the 8 ill def get an EVO.
pelucidor 12-01-2003, 11:44 AM What are the running costs on the EVO like (insurance, fuel, tires, servicing etc). Just curious. Great speedy car btw - quick thrills for sure.

Insurance - $1,181/Year. I live just outside of Newark, New Jersey which is one of the higher rate regions.
Fuel - I get anywhere between 17 - 27 MPG, with the average being around 23 MPG. However, i use 94 Octane at Sunoco, which is costly (93 works fine too) so that's a bit higher. I use the Sunoco Mastercard which brings it close to the cost of 93 Octane with the 4% discount.
Servicing - Here is where it gets a bit costly. Tires don't last long probobly ~ 20,000 miles and are expensive (~$ 300 each). In addition, to drive in the cold (< 40 degrees) on a regular basis you'll need all season or snow tires. Of course, you can replace these with a cheaper tires, but the Yokohama Advans are so good I'll pay the extra $$.
Finally, you need to use synthetic oil, which gets pricey.

I'd check out if someone has compared the Falken Azenis (S03s would be another one to check out) to the Yokos yet, much cheaper and I wouldn't be surprised if the grip is as good or better. I know the Advans are damn close to being an R compound so I could be a bit off on this.
Grats on the car moogle, good choice! Now it's time for some mods! :p
Congrats on your Evo... I was on a evo forum just the other night and i read that there are dealers, going under invoice to sell them by the end of dec. 31st? did you get an awesome deal like that?
cueball 12-01-2003, 03:37 PM As long as your happy with your car then congratulations.:)

From my time over on evolutionm.net, it seems most people think the Advans are pretty darn hard to beat unless you went with a ridiculously short-lived track tire.
djmano 12-01-2003, 06:52 PM 20,000 miles on those yokohama advan's might be wishful thinking.
btw i've known all too many friends who've run through a set of azenis in a few weeks with some hard touge (mountain) driving.

Yeah, Azenis aren't exactly durable either, but they should be about on par with the Advans and are about half as much...
moogle 12-01-2003, 09:49 PM I got it w/no sunroof for 28,500. Not really invoice but atleast is below msrp, but the deal I had was 2.9 percent for 66 months...WOO WOO! It took me 4 long hours to get them that low on price and interest. I have only driven it 2x that's from the dealership to here and school, it doesn't seem like its guzzling gas. Oh yeah how do you not drive it wildly b4 1000 miles hit in. Break in is so hard, I just want to redline this thing when I drove it. Insurance for me "20" was 150 full coverage co/sign w/mom. Oh yeah I paid the down and paying monthly payments for the car not my mom, so don't tell me that I am spoiled. HEHE...
Apex silver.

That's why you make the breakin only 700 miles haha.
moogle 12-01-2003, 09:55 PM Mods...
Ike what are the most affordable ones out there.
Name me some between price range of 100-200. I know an intake cost somewhat in the 150 but what else out there that's not outrageously expensive.

I hear the Azenis are basically a semi-slick and pretty bad in wet conditions. Since New Jersey gets more rain than Seattle, they were out of the question for me.
The stock Advans are tough to beat, at least the Tire Rack folks think so:

I would recommend just driving the car for awhile as its going to take awhile to get used to (and have control) over the stock power.
After awhile if yo want to do some mods, i would suggest an exhaust upgrade. You can go for a full turboback exhaust (downpipe, highflow cat/no cat (illegal), catback) or just go for a catback. After that you can go for an ecu reflash (i.e. Dynoflash) or a piggyback system (i.e. Vishnu Xede).
However, these mods will cost more than what you are looking to spend. I wouldn't bother on an intake on the EVO as you are probobly going to see little to no gains from it. I think you could afford a cheap manual boost controller, but I wouldn't screw around with standalone units unless you really know what you are doing. You could also afford a grounding kit and see perhaps a couple WHP and some shocks when you touch the car!
moogle 12-02-2003, 12:45 AM thanks for advice revhappy "puppy lol." Yah budget is very short now due to payments, and I wont think of adding mods until finance gets a bit better that's why I ask what mods out there that are affordable.
Affordable = less than 200. If non than I can wait.

Your only real option then is a boost controler, but before you do anything with a boost controler read read and read more, they are not the safest thing in the world but can be safe if you watch things closely and basicly set it near stock boost. The benefit will be boost coming on sooner and holding higher at higher revs. Honestly you're probably better off just not messing with it, however when it starts to feel slow :p you might consider it.
It sounds like you should start saving now for that set of tites though.
Also the Azenis are good tires but like Revhappy said they can get slippery in the wet, the S03s are better in the wet. By the time you need tires there should be some more feedback from people about how some of the lesser expensive performance tires compare to the advans.

They are pretty good in wet actually but horrible in snow.
