I seem to have leant my friend one of my cd's, with the caveat that it would be returned within reasonable time. Now this fellow has left town, and won't be back for at least two weeks.
What should I do...

Your friend probably left it at his house so you can go pick it up whenever.
there's really nothing you can do except learn from your mistakes and not lend him anything...if he really needs something in the future, make sure to bring up this instance and that if he doesn't reutrn it to you in a reasonable amount of time, you won't lend him anything more in the future...getting "postal on his arse" won't really accomplish anything except bad vibes...getting revenge will make your relationship worse...i say go with the porn

This is awesome advice. I pretty much had an inclination that this guy was a guy that would keep cd's for too long.
noahprtlnd: no, he didn't.

A friend had a CD of mine for over 2 years. When I saw it in his room and took it back he freaked because he thought it was his. Another friend has had my Video cam for 3 years .. I'm just going to buy a new one since that one is quite dated.
