Ok is it just me or does anyone else get told by people that their RX8 reminds them of a Viper....?? a friend of mine calls my car a mini-Viper...And just today i was letting a family cross the road, and as they were walkin by they were complimenting my car, the man asked me if it was a new viper....(duh hence the mazda symbol on the front) but neways i see that as a HUGGGE compliment:D

it's a compliment on the car's body I'd say.

If the comparison was based on the interior, then I'd say insult. The Viper's interior is not as good as the RX-8's.

nope just the exterior...mainly from a front view...

Haven't gotten that for the RX-8 but I would get it all the time in my FD.

When I first got my car in late July, I used to get "oh, that's the James Bond car". People mixed it up with the "Vanquish" until they saw the Mazda emblem. Some people seriously thought my car cost a couple hundred thousand....

The 8 has a little Aston Martin cues...but the FD was the one that would garner lots of "baby Viper" comments.

Funny...I was staring at front of my car today in the sunlight and was thinking..."It reminds me of some 90's super car...which one could that be?" Now that you guys mention it though, "DUH!"

Ya, I can definately see how the FD would get the "baby" Viper compliments, especially with it's sleek hood and low roof-line. Damn...I remember a year and a half ago, there was a Silver FD for sale at the same dealership my Girlfriend and I got our RX-8. The dealership listed it in the Trade Express for sale at 12,000 dollars, but they sold it off the lot before the Trade Express even came out for that week. Crazy.

My FD is much more Viper like, especially striped in a Viper paint scheme (black with silver stripes). Haven't heard it in the 8 yet. But if you are asking me what I would rather have, its a Viper. I would trade both of my rotaries from the right Viper GTS.

I got the same thing....I have had 2 people tell me they thought my car was a Viper.

I prefer to call it "THE BEAST"!!

I refer to it as that so much that my 2 year old says "Papa, Lets go in THE BEAST"

I LOVE THIS CAR!!! Sucky gas mileage and all!! :)

You know, everyone knows I have a almost unnatural love of the 8, but.....It is no viper!

Vanquish & RX-8

hm... for some reason i'd rather have the rx-8 than the viper. i don't know call me crazy, but this car suits me perfectly. i've never before felt so in tune with a car before.

a kid i know initially thought my car was a viper lol

i suppose if you just catch a glimpse of the nose as its driving by it could seem like one

I usually get the mini-Viper comments when I'm driving my NB Miata. The front and rear look somewhat similar to eachother.

I have gotten 2 comments if my red 8 was the new viper. I was supprised by the comment cause i don't think it looks like it. But i did observe that the folks that made the comment were NOT hard core auto enthusiest---but a casual car observer IMHO.

I've heard everything ...

I've been asked:

- Is that a Viper?
- BMW Roadster?
- the new Miata's?

The biggest insult ever:

- Is that a Hyundai Tiburon?

Then I went to look at the Tiburon on the web, and I'm almost ashamed to see some resemblance ...

Then again, I also see some resemblance between Janet Jackson and Micheal Jackson ... and we all know which one we'd rather have ...

HAHA i used to have an 03 tiburon....i traded it for my rx8 WOW BIG DIFFERENCE...but yea absolutely no reseemblance, the interiors very poor and the exterior/interior are verrrrrrrry cheap.

o and i've gotten, "is that a new lexus" or "isnt that a mercedes"

That is wierd cause I got that also. I didn't think anything of it, but man a few of you have also gotten it. I barely see it, but not really.

much of the viper's styling was originally taken from the FD so the viper should really be called " a baby fd". much of the current vette's styling was taken from the fd also. and if you have seen some of those pics running around awhile ago of what the next vette might look like then you can see that gm is again looking at mazda(the rx-8 this time) for it's styling cues. and the viper hardtop has the double bubble roof that everyone fondly remembers from the fd which the rx-8 has to a smaller degree.

yep...my neighbor said front end looks like a viper....and my sister said it looks like a Jag!

OK so basicly we can all agree that this car is F@*KIN awesome...i can't tell you how many times ppl tell me to roll down my window just say how nice it is....man i love this car:D

Zoom... the Viper debuted at autoshows in Jan. 1989 and were rolling off the assembly line in 91, how exactly would they be able to take the FD's styling since it wasn't introduced until MY93? Useless Viper fact time, the early viper could go 0-100-0 in less time than it would take the RX-8 and most other cars on the road to reach 100 :eek:.

I don't get your Vette comment either, if anything they took styling cues from the NSX. All nice looking cars but I just don't see the similarities. Lets face it, there's really not a whole lot you can do that hasn't been done already, so every automaker borrows a little of this and a little of that and adds their own somewhat unique touches.

i would agree and disagree with you Ike on this comment...the back end of the C5 vette took cues off of the NSX. But the front end, profile, and roof design are FD RX7 all the way. But, we can all go further back for the "double-bubble roof" to Zagato, hence the name "Zagato-style" roof.

The side profile looks so much like a NSX on roids to me, I'll take a closer look next time I see an FD and C5 up close, but I just don't see the similarities.

Saw a red Viper in a parking lot and thought it was an RX-8 :) It was kinda dark.

The red for some reason seems to bring out the resemblance. I don't think a silver would be as easily confused.
