$199 new Arcade 360s tomorrow ($299 premium, $399 elite). Nice price for a premium on Buy, but refurbs - especially refurbed 360s - scare the crap out of me.

I don't know. I'm on my 3rd 360 at this point so I don't trust them in general. I guess if you can still ship the refurbs back when they RRoD on you, it's a pretty good deal.

not sure what the new warranty is on a reconditioned 360? ipods are 90 days, ms is probably around same amount of time.. didnt read the refund/replacement info on it.

its odd i havent had a single issue with my 360 and i bought it on launch day. it seems that every one of my friends has had problems with theirs though.

Quiet! As soon as I started saying that, mine went and died on me. No warning, just one day my roommates told me it wouldn't turn on. I even have it in a very nicely ventilated entertainment center, and I take extra care to avoid it overheating, but it still went and died on me. This is where my mistrust stems from.

So, shhh! Don't jinx it!

I'm pretty sure Microsoft stopped caring about warranty status as long as you have THE RRoD (there are other red-light error codes) and I think they may have started to cover E74 errors too. Basically, if it's going to fail, you should probably hope it's one of those two.

I have been very lucky with my 360, two years and no errors. I watched three of my friends miss the Halo 3 launch as they waited for theirs to come back from the RRoD repairs. I wouldn't trust a refurb 360, I usually have no issues with refurbs but it just doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

Hot Topic has cut prices for their NEW 20gb Halo 3 special edition 360s to $199. I'm half tempted to buy one just because they're so cheap.

Edit: Gah! Word on the street is they've already sold out. Call before you go running to the store, kids!

If it's not the elite, it's not worth it.. In a month you'll have the ring of death..

I just have a premium and have been happy with it. no "ring of death".

I've had my premium for 6 months now and haven't had any overheating issues.

All newer 360s have hardware revisions to make the RRoD less likely. Some of the Halo 3 editions (but apparently not all) are supposed to be packing the cooler 65nm chipset.
