I thought I put this in lounge cuz its not really about the rx-8... i have a integra right now, soon too be owner of an rx-8 (though that legacy looks tight), but had a question about what just happened to my car... i was driving up from San Diego, live in Orange County (about 75 mile trip) and I decided to get gas.. I already had about 3 gallons in there of shell, and since only chevron was close by, filled it up with that.. it was 87 octane... does mixing different gas make the engine act weird? what happened when i got off the freeway is that i was getting ready to stop at a red light, and my engine just died... then couldnt get it going for about 5 minutes, but pressing on the gas, got it to go... now, on idle, it is very very rough, and once more, the engined died on idle? is it the gas or do i need to get rid of this car now and get an rx-8?

also, is this the first time your engine died on you? maybe something's wrong with your car, because i doubt different brands of gas would create a problem.
Just my observation on different gas brands:
[76 and Shell gas] -- Causes less throttle response on the pedal, as if the throttle bodies were dirty.
[Chevron] -- Better and lighter throttle response .. as if throttles were a tad cleaner.
I just switched from Chevron "w/ Techron" to 76 just yesterday and there was this noticable difference.
I assume its the magical "techron" that's making the different .. same octane. Well, as a tangential question, are injector cleaner chemicals good for the rotor/motor, in general?

its not modded... and has not happened before... i am not a big techie and dont want to be taken to the cleaners at a mechanic... i will just take it in tomorrow... could it be some sparks plugs not firint?? cuz at idle, the engine is very rough and shakes a bit...

mixing gas shouldn't cause this. whatever happened probably woulda happened anyway regardless of what you put in.

Check your spark plugs...distributor cap, distributor rotor, and run some "TECHRON Fuel system cleaner". You can buy the last at just about any autoparts store and even K-mart, WalMart.

You have an Integra DC2 or DC5 Type R???
I had a ITR DC2R for 4 chucking/fanging years prior to my RX 8.
If you want my personal opionion about the difference ... post me a personal message

Oh talking about the gas... For Integra Daniel the higher the RON the better and smoother it becomes. I use 95 RON in Australia and also have 98 RON for Shell Optimax and now BP and Mobil has 98 RON fuel. 95 RON is just not up to stretch when VTEC opens at 5,800 rpm. Fuel additive is better for Integra - but was advice in the RX8 welcome pack NOT TO add fuel additive - same in US?

thanks a lot guys.... i found some initial problems.. it is the spark plugs.. the shop that did my change about 9 months ago was soooo freakin cheap they used spark plug wires that did not fit... they cut the spark plug holder just to make it fit... it was not even snug on top and a lot of dirt and crap went down there and the spark plugs was not firing... replacing the spark plugs with bosch +4 and getting the acura brand spark plug wires has made things feel all good... gotta drive around a bit to make sure.. i will get the additive as well.. but all seems fine for now... also got the air filter changed.... i use 87, and that should be changed to 91 as well... man, i am going to piss on the shop that i got the stuff from....
oh well, more the reason to get an rx8 huh =)
