View Full Version : 122 Mph!!!
Quick-8 11-27-2003, 10:44 PM First time I had a chance to open it up, and I'm not disappointed.
It was a short distance ( one mile at the max) had to back out because of traffic. I had plenty of RPM's and another gear. ( This took place in a semi-controlled environment and in no way do I recommend anyone to attempt this!! :D
find a longer road...
Jump120MPH 11-28-2003, 08:50 AM Ive had mine up to 140mph
RX8Lover 11-28-2003, 01:13 PM 122 is nothing. like others here, we have gotten it up to the 140s.
mikeb 11-28-2003, 01:21 PM ya, 122 is crap you should be ashamed J/K
-=Zeqs=- 11-29-2003, 02:06 AM 122 not too shabby with a mile of road...
oosik 11-29-2003, 03:45 PM got mine to 97....didn't realize it at first.......is that fast? :)
Quick-8 11-30-2003, 12:56 AM A little more road and less traffic and I'm sure to join the 140 crowd. ( Again I do not promte speeding!! Keep it in a controlled envrionment whenever possible.)
4fcn121 12-01-2003, 11:26 AM man for those 140 people you guys has gone nuts, the fastes I have done in my TII is 120
MazdaManiac 12-01-2003, 11:49 AM The thing that has taken some getting used to is the fact that the RX-8 goes real fast real easily.:p
I am constantly finding myself in the 90's when I really only need/want to be in the 70's.
I bumped into the 140's last week in the middle of the night on a long, lonely stretch of I-270. I only thought I was doing 110 or so, but my actual speed was brought to my attention by the GF who was giggling about how she "couldn't believe we were just doing 140+!"
Oops.:D
'Round here, that would have been a real big ticket.
Oh well.

Floyd 12-01-2003, 08:38 PM Thats a ferarri logo on the wheel, right? Btw i had my 86 GXL at 140.....but it took a hella long strech of high way to creep past 130 to it :)

I snuck past 130 in my GXL also (a '90) and things started to go a little weirdy-floaty so I figured that was enough fate-tempting for one day. Lots of nice long straight bits of road in the desert out here, although some have some nasty woop-de-doos from going over the sand, which can be very "exciting" at any kind of speed....
Guys, I just came back from London, and people there drive 100 average. I was driving a rented Benz going about 110, and I thought I was crusing pretty fast. I looked into the rear view mirror hoping not to see any police behind me, only to see there were about 100 cars lined up behind me... *swear drop*. I let them pass, 110 in a rainy day too I ahve to add. I know 110 is not fast or anythign, but imagine... you are 80 years old with a cigg in your hand and you drive 120 in the rain... just like everyone else.. kinda scary. Imagine how crazy Germany gets. In Autobann. I commute to work that is about 100 miles away. wow that must be a long drive. Yeah it takes aobut 10 mintues to get there.....
ooops, I made an error in da beginning.. that was me driving 100 or so

it's was a 2000 360 Modena coupe.
Damn man, 200mph is insane. I had my old 86 bmw 535i doing 150 and that was kinda scary.

remember it's a Ferrari speedo. It's more like 178 rather then 190.
130 (my highest speed) on the RX-8 is about as scary as 70 on a bike, which really isn't that scary at all...i don't think i need to tempt fate anymore though, espcially since i'm already driving with a suspended license
KTM-316 12-03-2003, 08:51 PM 147mph (with only 100-120 miles on the car)... as soon as I got out of Diamond Mall exit to Old Seward Highway going south (alaska residents should know this)

OK, who wants to try the "FLASH-TO-LIGHT-SPEED" trick? Since the 8 handles so smooth above 120, just take one hand off and "flash" the speedo over to kph. Voila! Instantaneous virtual acceleration.
Well maybe I shouldn't be giving anyone ideas on new ways to earn a Darwin Award.
The trick that is fun, since the speedo is digital only, is to fool a passenger into thinking that you're speeding when you're really not.
(Doesn't work so well in other parts of the world, obviously: "Hey, look how SLOW we're going...")

Travel
1998, autobahn, Germany, 167mph in a "Slightly modified" 1990 GTU. Sorry a lied on the slightly part of the sentence. In fact that sucker was turbocharged. The only thing I regret is that I did not take a picture like the ferrari guy did to prove it.
RX8Power
rx8power 12-06-2003, 11:11 PM You'll be surprised what that small 1.3 can do with the right mods and of course, MONEY.
The last picture posted by Matt shows his old 308 followed by a row of cars. That is me with the red hat putting up the top on my Mondial Cabriolet (since sold).
I can verify that the 308 in the front was Matt's car but as to the rest of the pictures, just remember that anyone can say anything on the internet.
You might want to check out these threads at FerrariChat (there are also other threads there discussing the issue). Be sure to read the entire thread.

Also, I wonder why he edited out most of his posts here on this forum that discuss his stable of cars and he deleted all info out of his profile.
