Hey guys,

Ive searched for over an hour on here and cant find a definitive answer so I am posting to ask if the rear trunk emblems are double side taped on, or if there are holes under the emblems? Before I start flossing them off and prying away, I would HATE to find holes under the emblems. (Mines an 09 but im sure its the same as earlier years.)

the "mazda" badge has three holes, the flying "M" has two holes, and the "rx8" is held on with double sided tape. so only the rx8 will come off without holes behind it

my 8 is in the body shop getting de-badged right now! I was gonna try the blow dryer and floss myself but finding out they had holes would have potentially been catastrophic lol. GL with that!

why are those so expensive? it shouldnt cost so much just for painting them. you could buy a couple of oem ones and mess up painting them and it would still be cheaper.

the only reason I can think of why tehy are so expensive is that they look like black chrome, Ive seen several people here paint them and it looks pretty cheap, mainly because they didnt prep the surface and used really thick enamel sprays but regardless it looked bad....

Whenever someone can post a pic of the back side of the removed emblems it will be greatly appreciated. Too much goin on in the back and I need to clean it up some. Im going to smoke them with Night Shades spray for that "black chrome" look. I just need to preserve the clips on the emblems so I can fasten them back on properly. :Kill1:

Its the tail light spray (transparent smoked). No sanding/scuffing required before spraying the plastic (just wipe the surface with alcohol). It works great on emblems from what I have seen friends do to theirs.

Im not sure if youre kidding or not, but incase youre not..... DO NOT paint them with touch up paint. You will ruin them and they will look horrible. You cant get a nice even coat. It will turn out all bumpy and nasty looking trust me.

Yeah I'm pasting this from my other post just a sec ago. Sorry I was caught up in all this chaos with Big O Tires....

"My tire blew yesterday so I take it up to Big O Tires (Never Again). Today was a complete and EPIC FAIL. So I have to get the 8 towed up to the shop and it gets there at 1pm. I get up there and tell them I want the new Falken piex tires or whatever. So they're like cool, we'll have the alignment done and it'll be ready at 6. I come back at 6pm and pay for the work. When they pull the car around... I have yet another flat tire. This time, its the new tire and not only this, but I am also at this time informed that they accidentally destroyed my tire pressure sensor. I also noticed that there are dents and scratches now on my otherwise spotless rims. If this wasn't enough, they get some retard mexican that doesn't even speak english to come move my car back (I have nothing against foreigners - I am on myself - Half). While he's trying to put my car in reverse, he kills my car 3 times by putting it in 6th. I basically open the door and tell him to GTFO. So tomorrow I am going to go up there and speak with the owner. I'm demanding that he replace the rims, give me the tires free of charge and replace the tire pressure sensor. Tallying up what the total will be tonight so I can go in there guns blazing tomorrow morning. Anywho... Stay clear of Big O Tires on the corner of Outer Loop and New Cut Rd. Bad Shit."

Anywho... That's why the pics aren't here yet. I'll make it a point to take pictures of the logos when I go to talk to the owner about what he's gonna do for me. In the meantime... Here are some pics of the back with my logos removed:

These were the OEM Badges that I had removed. The RX-8 Logo was just a sticky with no holes. Three on the "Mazda" badge and another two on the "M" logo. Hope this helps. Good luck with the de-badging! It really adds a nice touch to the car :P

Thanks for the pics kainis2k. Theyre not even clips which is good, I dont have to worry about breaking them. I will post pics after I take them off and smoke the emblems.

no problem... I find it hard to find good information in posts anymore... I wish there was more discussion about changing out headlight bulbs that would have just told me to remove the front bumper and remove the housing rather than reaching in through the wheel well and breaking a platic bracket (i fixed it tho). In general, those are my pet pieves... I try to be helpful as much I can to make it easier on the next guy... Good luck with the de-badging!

Thats what I used to get through the 3M double sided tape but now the plastic pins are what wont budge. Are there clips on them or what? :banghead:

Don't be scared to yank on it a little bit, the clips won't break. They aren't that fragile, just take your time with it and in no time you'll have them off!

Rates vary from shop to shop. Since the holes need to be filled and the trunk lid repainted, probably 200-300$

debadging the front costs about the same as a repaint for the front.

Would refilling be really hard? considering i have the original paint itself up in my closet.

So the guy i asked quoted me "300" for front and back is that a good deal?

it depends on how good their work is and how theyre going to fill it. Ideally the holes should be welded shut to avoid cracking in the future like body filler can do.

If you know how to weld you could fill in those holes yourself (trunk) and save some money.

Yeah i asked and it took him some time to say what he was going to do with the car. I think hes not that great but still knows a little about it.

^^^ Also the front will be filled most likely with filler compound, and may look nice when you first get it but as time goes by the compound may sag...

Sorry for the overdue reply... My grandfather passed and I was out of the country... I wish I could tell ya, I have them taken out by a professional. I'll text him and see what he has to say about it though and get back to you this weekend if not by mid next week. :P

Well I got a similar car to yours: TiGray color, black rims, 5% tint, smoked tails, smoked corners, smoked heads, and eyelids...

For your debadge question, you might want to try what I did: remove the badges, fill in the holes with body-filler, and then black out your trunk into the lines of the taillights...I can email you pics if you want. I think it turned out pretty well. It's subtle and looks good.

Re-painting is what will get you. $400 here do debadge 'em.

^^lol idk if my body shop guy is just a nice man, but to do all of the following, he charged $100:

-Fill in trunk's holes after I debadged it
-Repaint backside of trunk and part of rear fenders (to go with the car's lines) black
-Smoke my tails
-Smoke my heads
-Paint and install my eyelids

And everything turned out perfect...I'm getting pics up tomorrow, I'll post a new thread with them in the Exterior forum

Is the front emblem a sticker or w/ holes? If I end up getting a grille I think I'd take it off.

i used some tape from walmart...it's double sided and it has like a white and green background... i believe on the label it talks about how it can hold up a 5 lb picture forever guaranteed... anyways i bought it and used it for my rear emblems for about 3 weeks (through carwashes and stuff too) and it worked fine...

thanks its the GTO wing which has an integrated third brake light. I just went the extra mile to remove and wels a plate in its place, smoothed it over like it was never there...
