Just brought home my new RX-8 last night. I bought a six speed in Winning Blue with cloth. I had to buy a base model because I refused to get the stability control... anyway... just welcoming myself here. I think it's great that this board is available and helpded me make my decision over all the other cars available! Thanks for all the great posts.

Interesting choice, so was it a monetary decision in addition to other criteria to not have DSC? It can be turned off and it is nice to have in bad weather. Congrats on the car!

Thanks. I did not want the DSC because I work with computers all day and I know that one day the DSC will stop working... and I believe it has too much control over too many functions of the car. Therefore, I didn't want it and I was willing to give up leather and all the rest for my "cause". If I didn't think I would keep the car past the warranty period, I would have reluctantly ordered it.

Well, congratulations man! You got a bitchen' car. It's not God's Chariot or anything, but it's a damn fine piece of machinery.

Yea...i like the way this guy thinks...traction control came with the model i ordered on my Z and I definitely hate it sometimes...always taking away my power when I want to use it. Even if the wheel slips just a tiny bit it takes away all the power. So now, i just leave it off all the time unless it rains etc.

Racer - Thanks!

ZThang - I really like the Z car too, it wasn't right for me, but it is a great car. And that IS an awesome bike!

Cool jerkorz. I got the base 6-speed too. (partially 'cause I'm a cheap bastard, but I also think cars already have enough electronic crap on them)

Traction control and DSC would have been nice for the driving in snow I must do, but with snow tires, (so far) it's kinda fun to drive in the snow; seems to have pretty controllable throttle steering if necessary, or desired!

You do know the throttle is drive-by-wire as well? If the computer shuts down in your basic model, so does your throttle.

That's the exact car I set out to buy...but alas, I ended up with a Black 6 speed with the Xenon lights, foglamps, DSC and traction control. I wanted the Xenon and foglamps, but didn't want the DSC/traction control. I wish the lights were stand alone options but whatever....I'm happy.

P.S. I haven't ever driven my car with the DSC or traction on. Yes I hold the DSC button off until it is completely off. The only electronic aid I won't give up is ABS...works great.

I love my DSC/TC. I understand that everyone is going to have a different opinion and that's great but if you wanted the other options one thing you could've done would be to remove the relay switch on the DSC and that would completely disable it.

I made the same choice as you did and bought a base model for the same reasons, and it had nothing to do with money or anything else! I did not want any drivers aid except my own right foot. :D

I like that the base model is the lightest but has all the same mechanical aspects of the other models. I do not find the sports package to be very sporty in option choices. I think it is a bonus that I can get the lightest version with the same power for the least amount of money. That leaves money for me to put on the things I do actually want.

Cheers and enjoy.

I took delivery yesterday...... black base model. I'm not a fan of driver aids such as traction control and helps the budget.
