MEGAREDS 11-26-2003, 01:57 PM I couldn't stop watching that video... that took me months to do back in '90 or '91. The carpeting in my bedroom in front of the T.V. had "butt-cheek" prints. He did it in 11 minutes? Amazing.

well, he made the most dangerous things in that game, not to mention getting 99 lives, look easy... he just ducks-while-jumping right through every real danger in that game (like the spinning discs), and makes a point of those stupid suicide moves during the last 4 levels in world 8 where the level slowly scrolls along!!! i know everyone tries to do that, just jump back as the platform-with-a-wall is moving off screen to get a single coin, or kill a single easy badguy, and you just end up dead 'cause you couldn't jump off fast enough... he did that dozens of times, even came close to not pulling it off, but did, every time. that was just pure insainty.
mental pimp 11-26-2003, 03:36 PM how do u guys know this is a kid? ive seen a video of the best Tetris player in the world, and he old enough to be my dad 40-50 and he was japanese also

no way man... the thing is, it wasn't perfect... he/she made a bunch of dicey moves which they didn't get caught on, but yeah, the timing on all the jumps through the quick levels was just absolutely uncanny.

i'm only making the assumption it's a kid since the older you get, the slower your reaction time gets...i know i was a LOT better at those platform jumping games when i was 15 compared to now...
as for Tetris, that game takes logic as do most puzzle games...so the older you get, the wiser you get...there are exception, being chess as a primary example...i know adults that have taken some nasty beatings from gifted children
some kids just have natural talent
anyways, glad to see ppl still remember the classic that is Super Mario Bros....it was the game that started the next generation of video game consoles after Atari and Coleco Vision died...i remember there was even a movie about Nintendo called The Wizard...it even had that Power Glove thing! i think that movie was all about this kid...

nostaligia...and remember this guy?

Kaliken 11-27-2003, 03:33 PM I could never get that robot to work... =(

strong bad 11-27-2003, 10:14 PM ...Seriously. If anybody saved it to their computer, please lemme know. I haven't seen it either. I'd sure like to see how crazy this is. Thanks.

The glove was pretty bad, perhaps it was the way I set it up wasn't optimal.
The quality of the glove itself was pretty sturdy, if I recall. The buttons were a bit hard to press and at the same time, kind of squishy to push down on.
The sensitivity of the glove's wireless actions were quite, umm.. what's a good word, "bad"!
The latency between the brain to the finger tips are in the area of microseconds as with the latency between the controller to the gamesystem.
The glove, on the other hand, the latency can be estimated to be in 100's of milliseconds range; pretty much the latency is noticable and therefore augments game play to a point where Glass Joe is like fighting Mike Tyson for the first time.
In all, it was quite innovative, I think. wish I still had it but I got so upset w/ that investment, I ended up never admitting I've owned one in grammar school.

Nintendo is a VERY innovative company when it comes to peripherals, although i don't think any of them really stood out as being worthwile investments simply because they never really enhanced gameplay...they were all gimmicks...i remember the R.O.B., the Power Glove, the Virtual Boy (great technology but it gave me a headache just from 5 minutes trying it out at Best Buy), The Famicom Harddrive, etc..
the Power Glove i actually did try at a friends and it was cool to play with but it didn't make your game better, it actually made it worse...

i just sifted through my temporary internet files and sadly the video is not there anymore...perhaps someone else can look through their temp folder and post it up again?
What about the nintendo power pad...The thing you had to stand on...It was a something that actually made video games a workout...Although we see how long that idea lasted...
Kaliken 12-03-2003, 12:58 AM i have the video if anyone wants it. its 13MB send me a PM and I can figure a way to get it to you .. Ken

Come on guys, you don't really think he did all that in real-time did ya? My guess is he played it on an SNES Rom (ROMs are SNES games that can be played on a computer with an SNES emulator, pirate away!) with the speed setting turned way down. He recorded everything at super slow speeds, then played it back at normal speeds making it look like he had insane reflexes. The things that tipped me off were the slightly unusual sound effects (Sound in SNES ROMs are always slightly off from the originals), the fact that the recording is digital, the speed at which he shoots fireballs (you can do this with a turbo control, I know. but it is also very easy to do when the speed setting is turned way down), and in world 8 when he crosses the bridge where the hands are supposed to come up and grab you at random...well either he was extremely lucky, or he utilized a feature of SNES emulators that allows you to take a snapshot of the game, and resume from that exact moment at the press of a button. A great feature. For example, you'd press shift + f1 to save just before entering the area with the bridge, then try to get across. If you get grabbed, just press f1 to reload the area, and try again. Repeat until you make it across. I'm sure he did this in MANY areas as well. Sorry to ruin the magic for ya :P
Kaliken 12-03-2003, 10:35 AM dude ebaumsworld kicks butt! Just watch out because you can spend several hours there with the games, videos or my favorite the soundboards.. You gotta love the Arnold soundboards/ crank calls!
I will attempt to post the video to some webspace I have tonight incase anyone still wants it. "crosses fingers"
brothervoodoo 12-06-2003, 06:47 AM More insane video game playing...

strong bad 12-06-2003, 06:28 PM WTF ...
That's amazing. You know, I've seen clips of ppl playing these games before, but the clips only showed the gameplay, not the actual person...I had NO IDEA it was this nuts.
I've played most of those classical pieces for the piano, and I gotta say, that's damn impressive. It's one thing to play with 10 fingers, but what they did with just two hands...wow. Granted, technique is only one half of playing music...but still.
Is this all from ebaums world? I've gotta check that site out...

I don't believe it.
Just as I had suspected, it was a fake.
Basically, the guy used an emulator, slowed it down to play, and cutted and pasted his best tries into one video shot.
