View Full Version : RX8 Custom Car Cover
kainis2k 08-13-2008, 06:24 PM Has anyone bought one of these? I was wondering how thick, if any is the cover? Is this worth the $170 plus however much for the lock? I was thinking about getting this because I have to park outside and I really want to keep the car looking its best. I work 3rd shift so I may be taking this to work with me to keep all the bugs and water off of the car from the morning dew. Any suggestions about this? Here is a link to the cover I was thinking of getting: http://www.mazdaparts.org/marxcarco.html
Thanks!

KITTRX8 08-13-2008, 08:39 PM I have this cover (in the Black and Red combination). It holds up well, keeps 95-98 percent of moisture out (I live on the beach), seals well against dirt and debris. Not too even mention......it looks awesome! The color does fade a bit and fairly quickly but then again mine is used 100% of the time. My car (unfortunately and temporarily) is an outdoor car. I only drive it once a week (if that) but the cover is on all of the time. I would say it is most certainly worth the money....I love mine!!
kainis2k 08-14-2008, 02:00 AM I'm curious, how does the lock work? Did you get that too? I would have to... Where I live my nuisance neighbors will probably try to steal it. Teenage punks... lol.
midlifer 08-14-2008, 07:50 AM I have one also. It does fit great. Mine did not come with the lock. I don't have a lock for it. The only time I put the cover on is in the fall when I store my 8.

Jedi54 08-14-2008, 02:07 PM the mazda cover is very good, I have the black / red version and I use it if I stay at my GF's. (she lives at the beach, no garage)
My only complaint on the cover is how TIGHT it fits! Your car needs to be pretty clean when you put it on or you could be putting fine scratches on the paint.
I use a Noah cover from www.covercraft.com for my daily usage. I throw it on while I'm at the office and it works AWESOME at keeping the dust and moisture off the car.
kainis2k 08-14-2008, 06:33 PM so the autobahn body kit + rx8 custom car cover = not a good idea because of the tight fit?... *sigh*
Jedi54 08-14-2008, 06:38 PM not sure on that on. My buddy has an Autobahn kit, maybe I can test my cover on his car some time.
kainis2k 08-14-2008, 06:55 PM that'd be awesome... yeah let me know if you do, I just crunched up my rear bumper after having my car for 3 days and I have to get that replaced but I plan on getting an autobahn body kit for it later on down the line say in about 6 mos to a year when I get a little more flexible financially. thanks for the replies!
KITTRX8 08-14-2008, 07:27 PM I have the OEM Appearance Package on mine (Front Air Dam, Side Aero Flares and Rear Aero Flares) and the fit is tight. At first the cover was a two person job to put on and even then it was a chore (due to the tight fit). However, I washed the cover and the fit got better. It is still snug and form fitting but it did loosen up a bit (thank god).
swoope 08-15-2008, 03:44 AM have to agree on the noah covercraft..
very good stuff.

Ryan2008 08-15-2008, 08:48 AM I bought one from advance auto and it doesn't even keep any water out. It says it does but I went out after it cleared up after some rain and the car was drenched underneath. WTF? Is this noah one completely water resistant?
KITTRX8 08-15-2008, 11:06 AM You bought the OEM two-tone cover and the car got soaked? If you have the OEM cover, that seems odd. Mine never gets wet, wet....just a bit of condensation here and there.
Huey52 08-15-2008, 11:28 AM I use a California Car Cover Superweave in the winter/outdoors. The breathable fabric performs very well, but I have to use a bungie cord under the vehicle to keep it on in high winds, even after machine wash/dry when it's tighter.
Is the tighter Mazda OEM cover good for winter snow/ice?
btw: The Noah cover, as my Superweave, is breathable microfiber so there is some water/condensation underneath which quickly drys. It's not supposed to be waterproof. That would be like putting a sheet of plastic on your car which would trap moisture (condensation) - not good!
Jedi54 08-15-2008, 11:47 AM the Noah cover is VERY good at keeping water out. As I mentioned before; I use it EVERY day at work (on the days I drive my 8)
I was in my office one day when it suddenly started pouring rain! It wasn't until 5-10 minutes later that I realized my 8 was outside.
I ran out there with an employee to help me get the cover off and just for fun I had him take off the front while I lifted the back of the cover.
To our absolute amazement: car was COMPLETELY dry. The cover was literally holding a gallon or two of water at that moment. We leaned the cover over, poured the water out and let the car get a free wash. (figured that was better then having a sopping wet cover)
I let the cover dry out over night and it's continued to work great.
andrew_RX8 08-15-2008, 03:33 PM Is the tighter Mazda OEM cover good for winter snow/ice?
I have the OEM cover on my car and ive used it in the winter as well. No problems with it. It holds off the snow really well and the car is perfect underneath. Would recommend it to everyone. Only issue is the tight fit but its worth the extra effort of putting it on.
kainis2k 08-17-2008, 03:38 AM cool, thanks for the replies guys... I think I might have to get the OEM cover for at home use and I'm currently trying to find the Noah cover for more regular use at work. Is it padded underneath as well? I'd hate to scratch my car with the cover. (I know that thats kind of a dumb question but the last car cover I had might as well been a tarp and it was used on an old SUV lol) Now to find out whether it will fit on the Autobahn body kit which I have my eyes on.
Tonicart 08-19-2008, 03:28 AM I am looking for a car cover for my new RX-8 too. I'm having a hard time finding the Noah covers at covercraft.com. Can you guys recommend a retailer or some links for these?
Any tips on what to do and not do when using car covers? Thanks!
Jedi54 08-19-2008, 12:38 PM tonicart: when you're at the home page of www.covercraft.com, click on Buy Online. (it's on the left toolbar, towards the top)
From there, you'll get a list of their vendors.
Under Custom Vehicle Covers: click on any of those vendors and price shop around. When I bought mine, the vendor prices did vary a bit so I'd recommend clicking on all of them and seeing who is the cheapest. (I can't remember the name of the vendor who I bought mine from)

lol, so much work to buy a car cover... you'd think the manufacturer would want to make it as easy as possible. I checked Google products and there's one for ~$180. Does that sound about right? I want to get one soon, it's only been 2 days and my car is dirty already! damn birds! :banghead:

Dude... I feel your pain... I had mine for two days and the birds like must've had spotters laser designating my back window... I drove to work the next day and couldn't even see out the back mirror lol. I would've cleaned it right away but I'm working doubles back to back so it's kind of hard... Cleaned it yesterday though... That was fun. I NEED that cover lol.
Tonicart 08-21-2008, 01:58 AM I just washed and half-ass waxed my RX-8 (used spray "in-between" real waxes, wax)... I got the windows too, hopefully it will make it a little easier to clean if the birds come around again.
Does $180 sound about right for a car cover? I've never had one before.
Jedi54 08-21-2008, 02:30 AM yeah, they're around $200. pricey but worth it
Huey52 08-21-2008, 08:08 AM California Car Cover. Easier webpage to navigate as well.
The Superweave is a bit better (but $+) than the Noah.

Yeah I'm thinking that if it is as good as everyone is making it out to be, I will most likely HAVE to have it. Car is in the body shop now getting a newly painted rear bumper installed. He said I'll need some sort of protection from bird crap and what not to keep it from staining and stuff.
Tonicart 08-26-2008, 03:35 AM I ordered a Noah cover from California Car Cover Co. They say it will take 2 weeks... BTW, how does the cover lock work? I'm wondering how you throw the cover over your car with the lock in it without scratching your car. It'd be a pain in the ass to loop the lock through every time...
Huey52 08-26-2008, 08:12 AM The cable with lock goes under the car. There are padded gussets to loop through. At home, outside, in the winter I just use a bungy cord. The cover has elastic corners but in very high winds you need an under cord.

Jedi54 08-26-2008, 12:27 PM I've actually never used the lock but then again, I haven't had HUGE wind gusts here in SoCal ;)
Rotary Rasp 08-27-2008, 04:17 AM My mazda oem rx-8 cover is for sale. red/black color combo... it's used and slightly faded but other wise fine.
$75
Razz1 08-27-2008, 10:22 AM How much extra room is there?
Will it fit with a body kit?

none, it's a tight fit even with the oem spoiler and apperance package.
Jedi54 08-27-2008, 11:56 AM razz: won't work for your car. :(
It's already a super tight fit with my MS wing + appearance pkg
kainis2k 08-27-2008, 03:41 PM waiting for piX :D
Jedi54 08-27-2008, 03:42 PM kainis: you want pix of the Mazda Red / Black car cover or the Noah?
I can take pics of both if you really want.

I was referring to rasp's cover cause I'm thinking of taking his off his hands depending on the condition. I don't care much about the faded outside as long as the inside still does a good job at protecting the car. I'd be curious as to see how the Noah cover fits if you don't mind Jedi? :D
Thanks,
kainis
Rotary Rasp 08-27-2008, 05:39 PM I will take a pic of the cover but without a car to put it on, the picture is not very helpful. Nonetheless, I'll take one tonight.

firebirdude 09-01-2008, 11:19 PM I use a Noah cover from www.covercraft.com for my daily usage. I throw it on while I'm at the office and it works AWESOME at keeping the dust and moisture off the car.I've got one as well. Happy with every aspect of it.:)
And I've heard from many that the factory cover fades very quickly.
rodjonathan 08-11-2009, 11:13 PM the factory one fades REALLY quickly ... or maybe i overused it but either way it looks shitty after a while
cidvicious831 08-11-2009, 11:25 PM im hopeing to get the oem car cover. its weird, every one's talkin about car covers today
dozer 08-11-2009, 11:25 PM ^its not that, but the threads got bumped

Tonicart 08-12-2009, 03:39 AM I have a Noah RX-8 cover... I've only used it once since I bought it a year ago. I find that covers are such a pain in the ass and I'd just end up scratching it even more. I thought it was a good idea at first, but it's just a waste of $200. I have it in storage, waiting for the day I go on vacation or whenever I know I won't be driving it for awhile :(
edit: I have to add that the Noah cover is an excellent cover with great build quality... but just the concept of the cover doesn't appeal to me :(
chrisis 03-21-2011, 06:37 AM i have the mazdaspeed body kit(front, sides, rear and wing).
Is the OEM car cover going to fit or not?
Jedi54 03-21-2011, 12:00 PM chrisis: probably will fit but VERY tight.
I had the MS wing with the appearance package and that was already a tight fit with the OEM cover.
