Looks like a small engine mount of some type. The scale is deceptive. The whole thing could be 6" x 6" x 4". I think the "RX8" doesn't have anything to do with mazda.

In fact ... http://www.amcracing.com/amcy2k/catalog/RX8.htm ... it's for a Rotax engine!

yes that would be awesome, but no, that bike has a Rotax 2stroke piston engine in it.

what makes the Rotax different?? let's ask Schneegz the bike guy to answer that... something with the valving...??? (all i know is that in most karting circles they have completely separate classifications for "Rotax engines")

oh, btw, Norton used to do a rotary engined bike. 600cc, competed well in the 750cc class I remember.

Du'oh! You messed up this time, Wakeech. This one is a 997.62cc 4 stroke 60 degree V-Twin with two couter-rotating balance shafts.

I'm not sure that this engine can be called "special" when compared to other modern sportbike engines (they're all incredible), but I can tell you that it is very smooth (unlike most V-Twins) and powerful, with the typical V-Twin low-end torque, but a more satisfying top-end rush than a typical twin. It also has a reputation for extreme long term reliability, unlike another well known Italian motorcycle manufacturer that shall remain un-named :D Sorry, desmo996.

I don't have any experience with Rotax other than a short ride on an Aprilia, so I'm sorry, but I'm not much help this time.

You can find out more at Aprilia's website. (http://www.aprilia.com/models03/road/eng/modello_techinfo.phtml?id=71)
