Well, just deleted my first thread because I somehow ended up in the wheels/suspension section when I made it... guess I wasnt paying attention lol.

Anyways, the basic story is as follows:

got my cat neutered. They said dont let him use litter for 10 days, use newspaper. I tried, he refuses, used my comforter instead. So any tips or tricks? I plan on calling the vet tomorrow sometime but looking for any ideas in the meantime. Not really sure how to influence him to use the paper instead...

lock it in a room with only newspaper and not your bed. maybe some food since you probably want it to live... water too... cats love water for some reason.

You are shredding the newspaper up, right? Their inclination is to bury it or hide it. My mother's cat did something similar - she kept the litter box down in the basement near the washer/dryer. The cat was upset with the paper and dragged a washcloth from the pile of laundry over to cover his poop

^ yes, shred the newspaper and put it in the litter box.

Put a thin layer of litter on the bottom of the box w/the shredded paper on top. If that doesn't work tell your Vet to stop being such a f8cking puss about it, and give the cat his litter back.

I've never removed the litter after neutering any of my cats. 6 males in the house currently - I had 3 & the fiancee had 3 (plus 2 females and a dog - it's a frickin zoo, but I digress)

10+ years as a tech at an E-Vet and no clinic I've worked at has ever recommended not using litter after a neuter. Just check his little nut sack and make sure there's no litter clumped all over it.

Get yourself a bag of Feline Pine. It's made from kiln-dried sawdust and breaks down as it gets wet. It come in pellet form and if your kitty first refuses to use it mix a little in with some shredded paper. Then gradually add more Feline Pine to it.

They also make some litter that is from recycled newspaper it's called "Yesterdays News" it works decently. Although my cat is pretty damn easy going, he'll go anywhere he's supposed to. I've heard horror stories of cats that only use litter.

My cats always spent a lot of time cleaning themselves after being 'fixed', cat litter was not a problem as long as it was cleaned so it is not exposed to its own used poo - just use litter and change it every day.

Did he have a tumor or anything that would make a larger than normal cut? It is a house cat, right? And not a mountain lion?

yeah... that's basically what the vet said to do... Just make sure it's clean and watch to make sure he doesnt have swelling or anything like that.

Rather sure it's not a mountain lion... but he is still growing...
