That sure does sound good I haven't had a good southern cooked meal in years. Back when I was in Biloxi... One thing I don't get. Our ancestors ate things like this, constantly and they didn't have problems with heart disease, and all these other ailments. They grew strong men and women, prepared physically to take care of themselves. The introduction of pesticides and chemicals has been what has caused these situations IMO. RWagz 08-23-2008, 02:34 PM One thing I don't get. Our ancestors ate things like this, constantly and they didn't have problems with heart disease, and all these other ailments. They grew strong men and women, prepared physically to take care of themselves. The introduction of pesticides and chemicals has been what has caused these situations IMO. Think about that statement. What was the state of medicine during the time of these "ancestors?" Disease was not created by pesticides and chemicals. It may have contributed to them, but I assure you that "...heart disease, and all these other ailments..." existed long before we had the medical knowledge to recognise them and the media to report on (and blow out of proportion) the prevalence of them. Edit: Another thought comes to mind. If our food is so tained, why is it that we are living longer. Why are we healthier? rddragoness 08-23-2008, 03:44 PM As stated, just an opinion. Actually I was just harassing JT, because I believe he likes to cook, and AJ you need to find is an old Betty Crocker cookbook. Most of those southern recipes are in there.... JurassicIce 09-09-2008, 11:17 AM chicken shawarma...mmmm Jethro Tull 09-09-2008, 12:09 PM Actually I was just harassing JT, because I believe he likes to cook Oh, I know you were. I was flippin ya 'chit because of that remark of keeping it halfway healthy in the presence of bacon drippings...two mutually exclusive items, I'm afraid. We have evolved to favor the high-calorie foods. In most cases, fat tastes good to us. That's why it's nearly impossible to eat just one potato chip. What kept heart disease rates down in our ancestors, even while consuming a high fat diet, was back-breaking work. Many modern aboriginal people still consume a high-fat diet, yet because they are physically active during all daylight hours, basically working their butts off, they don't get plaque build-up in their arteries and burn off the fat calories. Also some populations have exceptionally high HCL's ("good" cholesterol). The rest of us, without a genetic advantage and getting our food at the Safeway, have to watch what we eat and excercise for it's own sake. dshiznit1489 09-09-2008, 12:15 PM i had chicken salad for lunch. |
