View Full Version : A-plan the rx-8
darkfx 03-20-2002, 01:26 PM i have a family member that works for ford motor credit, so im entitled to the a-plan.. will the dealers let us a-plan them? i know you couldn't do the navigator when it first came out, i was wondering if this will be the same. Also, do you know when they are gonna start takign deposits?? thanks
veloceracing 03-20-2002, 01:48 PM The dealers cant say no PER SE, but they can ask you to wait if there is an overflux of demand.
I get the D-Plan and they better not *ahem* me

I'm in essentially the same boat. Dealers have a choice when it comes to the A plan, and for hot selling models, they tend not to do it (many won't do it on Cobras, for example). On the other hand, there are (Ford) dealers that make A-plan transactions an important part of their business. I've heard of several people finding dealers willing to A-plan Cobras and Lightnings. I assume Mazda dealers will be the same way.
When the RX-8 comes out, if I'm serious about picking one up, I plan to call a number of dealers to find one that will A-plan the car. I suspect that dealers in Detroit and near large Ford facilities will be more likely to do it than those that aren't.

Some dealers are already taking deposits. The ones that are taking them are most likely to be exclusively a Mazda dealer (no Lincolns or Mercurys, etc.), and larger volume dealers.

I wondered if there were any other refugees from the BMW boards here yet. Mazda might be curious about that, too, I should think.
RX-8: The A-plan (and Z-plan, for retirees) is the discount package given to Ford employees and their immediate families on qualifying Ford/Volvo/Mazda/Jaguar/Land Rover products (don't think it's offered on Astons, heh). The employee can only use it a limited number of times per year, but it gives the purchaser the car at essentially dealer cost (i.e., less than invoice). Ford provides some money to the dealer for these transactions, so they make something on them, but for a limited production car they can obviously make more money on each unit by marking the cars up and selling them retail.
Other car companies also have discount plans, but they all work a bit differently.
RX - 8 03-21-2002, 09:17 PM thanks for the exlpanation JST
veloceracing 03-21-2002, 09:28 PM A plan i believe is Five under Dealer invoice. I am part of the D-Plan (Ford Management) I am 2% underdealer cost.
coors 04-19-2002, 01:44 PM It will be interesting to see if the RX-8 is available through A plan. Some vehicles are not. Lightenings and Thunderbirds are not available at this time on the plan. Usually the high demand cars get excluded. Bummer, I guess time will tell.
xmatt 04-24-2002, 06:53 PM What's the deal with the S-plan? My wife (and thus me apparently) have access to it and I'm curious what kind of discount, wait times and - most importantly - rx8 access I can get with that...
