llzjayarzll 07-27-2008, 09:52 PM if anyone noticed i decided to sell my car and buy what ive always wanted. ive saved up for the past months buying nothing at all so i can buy this car i found in minnesota and drive it back here to NY. it was worth it.

its a 1999 3000GT VR4 TT AWD AWS, only 287 were made in its last year and this is in mint condition, clean carfax, and only 60k original miles on the clock.
this car is 10 days old with me and ive managed to put on a FMIC, HKS SSQV, greddy turbo timer, blitz boost controller, and defi blue racer gauges(courtesy of lil benny).
lucky enough for me i live 30minutes next to some of the greatest 3000GT mechanics and tuners in the country!
ill still be on the forum and hang out at some local meets as i still am a lover of rotaries. feel free to comment.

my front mount is crooked i know, but we couldnt find any good sized brackets to use or make for that matter since it was 3 in the morning.
alz0rz 07-27-2008, 09:54 PM not bad, i too was almost taken by a vr4 before buying the 8 - in the end it came down to availability of a later year vr4.. alas you found a good one.
llzjayarzll 07-27-2008, 09:58 PM heres a remembrance of my old car.

kersh4w 07-27-2008, 10:02 PM i think the celica gts type spoiler has to go. but i've always been a fan of the later year flying saucers. nice car.

this car is the least made production car under 100 grand. im not changing the body at all. =)
any fan of the 90s era japanese horsepower wars will appreciate this fine vehicle. id say its on the same plateau as the MKIV, 300zx fairlady, and rx7.
chrism 07-27-2008, 10:11 PM super sexy
DavidR 07-27-2008, 10:23 PM LOL! Nice pick up, this was my previous car;

hard top convertible. i didnt even know it existed until 6 months ago.
nuke0907 07-27-2008, 10:29 PM maybe you've heard of VR4ever, he's in my area and has been in modified magazine. i'll see if i can scan it unless you've already seen the article.
llzjayarzll 07-27-2008, 10:31 PM yea i have the magazine, its the blue one featured with a galant vr4
llzjayarzll 07-27-2008, 10:33 PM davidr,

AJ's Shinka 07-27-2008, 10:38 PM Nice Vr4 your old 8 was very clean as well.
Davidr- Who and what is that little asian girl doing with the spoiler?

DavidR 07-27-2008, 10:51 PM Haha, it had so many problems with it I had to sell it to buy the 8.
The asian girl is my sister.
I love the way the 3rd generation 3000GT's look like, it's just too bad that that was the only one available at the time. :[ It's definitely unique, and super sexy.
llzjayarzll 07-27-2008, 11:00 PM oooo, i havent seen that one. theres another modified mag that featured a blue vr4 that i figured was the one you were talking about.
its not often you see this car in a tuner mag anymore
XlYesterdaYlX 07-28-2008, 01:02 AM Nice! the spoiler looks a bit out of place though.
XDEEDUBBX 07-28-2008, 04:16 AM nice VR4
nvrfalter 07-28-2008, 09:00 AM sexxxxxxxxx
Willicuddy 07-28-2008, 12:14 PM Nice ride man. Hopefully yours will be more reliable then all of my previous Stealth's :)
rglbegl 07-28-2008, 12:29 PM I am glad that such a rare car has made it in to the hands of a true enthusiast.
NYC Drift King 07-28-2008, 03:24 PM Man dude that Vr4 is gorgous. Good choice. I got to come by and check it out in person. Bro is my exhaust still at ur house? I got to pick that thing up...
SideOfBacon 07-28-2008, 03:28 PM love it... i too was on market for the 3000GT before picking up my 35th anniv. mustang back in 99. gorgeous car.
Rkesh88 07-28-2008, 04:06 PM i was actually just thinking and lurking 3si today. very nice choice, not many 99's come by up here in NY. also they seem to be a pretty penny. i find myself in the groove of picking an rx8 over the vr4 alot.
playdoh43 07-28-2008, 04:11 PM nice, very clean. congratulations its a classic
HockeyRX-8 07-28-2008, 04:33 PM Sexy vr4!
alexisthemovie 07-28-2008, 04:38 PM it was rare for many reasons:
-unreliable
-hard to work on
-slow
-heavy
-poor gas mileage
-expensive
but different strokes for different folks. I drove the shit out of one and came away completely unimpressed. It felt slow and ran out of breath early in the rpm range.

i guess to each his own, these factors were a concern to me as well until they were easily worked out.
-unreliable - best shops for 3000GTs in the country are right here in long island
-hard to work on - i do what i love and dont regret it at all so far
-slow - the avg hp range for everyone on the forums is 350-500 td04/05 much better than my 8. less exxpensive as well.
-heavy - easily trim down weight with lightweight parts, seats and AWS delete.
-poor gas mileage - i got 29 mpg on the way home. much better than my 8.
-expensive - an rx8 isnt?
LiTTleRX-8 07-28-2008, 05:32 PM Damn nice, the 3000GT's have been my dream car for a long time (since gran turismo 1, lol)...Too bad they were unavailable in Canada.
Oh well...I may someday try and import one as a project car...I hope...
very very sexy man. I love those things, you are full of win.

Detrich 07-28-2008, 09:06 PM geez grandma, what big spoiler u have's... ;)
Rx8urZ 07-28-2008, 09:29 PM very nice car,,just be aware that the factory parts for that thing are pretty expensive. oh and a very common problem is the steering rack likes to leak(the front one)lol:lol:
9krpmrx8 07-28-2008, 11:20 PM Great car. I would love to toy with one. How are the interior bits? Oh and the fitment of the carbon fiber hood on the silver one is hideous.
LHpitcher4 07-29-2008, 12:35 AM Nice! the spoiler looks a bit out of place though.
My brother has a 1992 3kGT VR-4, and its wing was just a lil' baby one and you could control it's tilt from the center console....
I'm surprised "park bench" remarks haven't been made...
From what I've read so far, I'm assuming that they came stock with that thing?
To each his own...it's still a badass car, but I mean WOW that's huge.
tajabaho1 07-29-2008, 03:24 AM that VR4 IS F'ing AOWN!!!
Awesome car man. Great work finding a unmolested VR4.
caaahhlvinn 07-30-2008, 05:26 PM the blowoff sounds so sexxxyyy
I liked the look of your 8 jayar.... i cant say the same for the VR4. However i do respect it for what it is.
i had to register for an account to post in this thread. that's a beautiful car GREAT find. the 3000GT has been my favorite car since I was 14 (11 years ago :P). My aunt has had 2 and one car I was considering before looking at the 8 was a 99 VR-4 but that would have been my 3rd 3000GT. At this point, as much as I love them, I've had one in some form or another since 2003 so its time for a change.
You made a hell of a score there though, great work. I'd keep that baby garaged at all times unless its summer where you are (if you don't have a beater car get one, trust me you won't regret having to tool around in a clunker if it means keeping that thing in pristine shape). :)
good luck with it, there's a good chance i might be moving from a 97 SL (same color as yours) to an 8 very soon.
llzjayarzll 08-01-2008, 12:29 AM the rx8 is a great car, id definitely get it over an SL. i wish i still had my 8 though to use as a beater but im not ballin' like that and cant afford both so i have a beat up accord to use. haha
The front bumpers "mouth" looks like its giving a blow job. lol , i thought the 8 had a blow job face :).
altspace 08-01-2008, 08:04 AM Great choice! Last year made and you are correct, very rare find. I actually have the dealer brochure for that car when it came out.
My father and I have a 1995 Stealth RT/TT AWD. It has very low miles (40k) and was a pace car for a local track. Currently it's all stock. It also needs a very good cleaning. Yes, wheels are stock 18" chrome.

altspace 08-01-2008, 08:13 AM Oh and the fitment of the carbon fiber hood on the silver one is hideous.
I was noticing that. What a shame.
llzjayarzll 08-01-2008, 10:31 AM nice! thats pristine!
kennychopra17 08-01-2008, 01:43 PM ahhh...stock Turbo's. I do also love the VR-4.
Congrats.
llzjayarzll 09-06-2008, 10:45 PM i like posting here rather then 3si because everyone on this forum is more alive. haha

moRotorMotor 09-06-2008, 11:38 PM Wow! That is one hella clean VR-4. Congrats!
9krpmrx8 09-06-2008, 11:46 PM Sweet car, seems to sit weird, or maybe its the pics. I am envious.
kersh4w 09-07-2008, 12:41 AM wow, that engine is set waaaay out in front of the front axle. how does it handle?
felixrenisiswankel 09-07-2008, 10:56 AM what kind of wheels did you have on your rx8 ?
llzjayarzll 09-07-2008, 05:20 PM axis shine's staggered fitment 19x8.5/9.5 fit perfectly flush
chiketkd 09-07-2008, 05:58 PM Beautiful car! :)
A few years back I had my eyes set on a '97-'98 VR-4 and even went so far as to test drive three different cars, however, in the end I went with a new 2.5L '06 WRX. They're great cars, but at 6ft 1", I couldn't fit in a VR-4 properly -- especially if it had a sunroof.
I'm jealous - it's definitely one of my fav "Japanese supercars" from the 90's. My all-time favorite though is a '99 Acura NSX Zanardi edition!
XxSaMiRxXS 09-07-2008, 11:53 PM i used to own a 1993 Vr4, fast car loved it
but i had a accident and they said that my car was totaled so i sold it to my insurance for $7000 and i bought for $5500 after that i just bought a rx-8 like 2 weeks ago and love it got a alot of plans for it
limpbozkit 09-08-2008, 12:23 PM That VR4 is so much better than an RX8. BUT I don't envy you. The manufacturer doesn't make that car anymore OR any of the parts you may need WHEN something breaks.
Riken 09-08-2008, 04:22 PM I personally never liked that body style, but nice find
dynamho 09-08-2008, 04:44 PM Clean car. Nice buy since you like the car. Great acceleration.
I don't know about the VR4, but the regular 3000GT SL handling wasn't very good in my opinion. I recall it felt very heavy and resistant to turning.
Speaking of VR4, the VR4 Galants were pretty sweet, which, I think was the spiritual precursor to the Evolution cars.
