if anyone noticed i decided to sell my car and buy what ive always wanted. ive saved up for the past months buying nothing at all so i can buy this car i found in minnesota and drive it back here to NY. it was worth it.

its a 1999 3000GT VR4 TT AWD AWS, only 287 were made in its last year and this is in mint condition, clean carfax, and only 60k original miles on the clock.

this car is 10 days old with me and ive managed to put on a FMIC, HKS SSQV, greddy turbo timer, blitz boost controller, and defi blue racer gauges(courtesy of lil benny).

lucky enough for me i live 30minutes next to some of the greatest 3000GT mechanics and tuners in the country!

ill still be on the forum and hang out at some local meets as i still am a lover of rotaries. feel free to comment.

this car is the least made production car under 100 grand. im not changing the body at all. =)

any fan of the 90s era japanese horsepower wars will appreciate this fine vehicle. id say its on the same plateau as the MKIV, 300zx fairlady, and rx7.

Haha, it had so many problems with it I had to sell it to buy the 8.

The asian girl is my sister.

I love the way the 3rd generation 3000GT's look like, it's just too bad that that was the only one available at the time. :[ It's definitely unique, and super sexy.

i was actually just thinking and lurking 3si today. very nice choice, not many 99's come by up here in NY. also they seem to be a pretty penny. i find myself in the groove of picking an rx8 over the vr4 alot.

it was rare for many reasons:

-unreliable
-hard to work on
-slow
-heavy
-poor gas mileage
-expensive

but different strokes for different folks. I drove the shit out of one and came away completely unimpressed. It felt slow and ran out of breath early in the rpm range.

i guess to each his own, these factors were a concern to me as well until they were easily worked out.

-unreliable - best shops for 3000GTs in the country are right here in long island
-hard to work on - i do what i love and dont regret it at all so far
-slow - the avg hp range for everyone on the forums is 350-500 td04/05 much better than my 8. less exxpensive as well.
-heavy - easily trim down weight with lightweight parts, seats and AWS delete.
-poor gas mileage - i got 29 mpg on the way home. much better than my 8.
-expensive - an rx8 isnt?

Nice! the spoiler looks a bit out of place though.

My brother has a 1992 3kGT VR-4, and its wing was just a lil' baby one and you could control it's tilt from the center console....

I'm surprised "park bench" remarks haven't been made...

From what I've read so far, I'm assuming that they came stock with that thing?

To each his own...it's still a badass car, but I mean WOW that's huge.

i had to register for an account to post in this thread. that's a beautiful car GREAT find. the 3000GT has been my favorite car since I was 14 (11 years ago :P). My aunt has had 2 and one car I was considering before looking at the 8 was a 99 VR-4 but that would have been my 3rd 3000GT. At this point, as much as I love them, I've had one in some form or another since 2003 so its time for a change.

You made a hell of a score there though, great work. I'd keep that baby garaged at all times unless its summer where you are (if you don't have a beater car get one, trust me you won't regret having to tool around in a clunker if it means keeping that thing in pristine shape). :)

good luck with it, there's a good chance i might be moving from a 97 SL (same color as yours) to an 8 very soon.

llzjayarzll
08-01-2008, 12:29 AM
the rx8 is a great car, id definitely get it over an SL. i wish i still had my 8 though to use as a beater but im not ballin' like that and cant afford both so i have a beat up accord to use. haha

Great choice! Last year made and you are correct, very rare find. I actually have the dealer brochure for that car when it came out.

My father and I have a 1995 Stealth RT/TT AWD. It has very low miles (40k) and was a pace car for a local track. Currently it's all stock. It also needs a very good cleaning. Yes, wheels are stock 18" chrome.

Beautiful car! :)

A few years back I had my eyes set on a '97-'98 VR-4 and even went so far as to test drive three different cars, however, in the end I went with a new 2.5L '06 WRX. They're great cars, but at 6ft 1", I couldn't fit in a VR-4 properly -- especially if it had a sunroof.

I'm jealous - it's definitely one of my fav "Japanese supercars" from the 90's. My all-time favorite though is a '99 Acura NSX Zanardi edition!

i used to own a 1993 Vr4, fast car loved it

but i had a accident and they said that my car was totaled so i sold it to my insurance for $7000 and i bought for $5500 after that i just bought a rx-8 like 2 weeks ago and love it got a alot of plans for it

That VR4 is so much better than an RX8. BUT I don't envy you. The manufacturer doesn't make that car anymore OR any of the parts you may need WHEN something breaks.

Clean car. Nice buy since you like the car. Great acceleration.

I don't know about the VR4, but the regular 3000GT SL handling wasn't very good in my opinion. I recall it felt very heavy and resistant to turning.

Speaking of VR4, the VR4 Galants were pretty sweet, which, I think was the spiritual precursor to the Evolution cars.
