Lake moderating effect is not helping enough, it's still too cold...

Enjoy the "warmth", next week could be even colder. Long range forecast are usually not that good, but we could hit lows with a windchill of -40 (I omit degrees as it doesn't matter... -40 is the same in F or C)

Supras generally dont handle that well, and have a nasty habit of blowing the head gasket. I believe (but not 100% sure) a metallic head gasket is a simple fix.

I know all about those blown head gaskets. They blow at about 100,00 K. How much would it cost? My friend says it is an absolutely easy fix. I'd rather get a supra than an FC, but that's only if the rumors I've heard about it are false. That thing sounds like a Hyundai Tiberon! Fast, but will break down 1/2 way through the 1/4 mile!

NA fc's will run longer than anything honda has ever made if it is taken care of. My turbo ii has 214k on the clock when I blew the original motor (leaned out under boost). It was still making good compression.

Edit: well if you just take the initiative and replace the head gasket once it starts getting old, it is an easy fix. If you wait till it blows you have to get the head machined and shit.

My current Acura Vigor GS has 285k miles on it and the engine still runs like a f*ing top. Don't knock what you don't drive.

I never meant being babied (bad for rotaries, the heat from driving harder burns up a decent amount of carbon). Regular fluid changes, proper maintainance etc.

I saw a 89 (I think?) FC a few weeks ago at a mcdonalds, had some 430k on it.

Edit: oh yeah, thats miles.

Because of the oil injected into the rotor chambers, rotaries have a nasty habit of building up an excessive amount of carbon. It can do a few things, carbon lock the engine, score the housing or rotor, can flake off and cause a seal to roll over or damage a turbine. Running the car harder every now and then will actually burn a lot of it out of the engine.

Sounds odd, but its true ;)

In a properly built 13b, no you shouldnt have any problems. However Ive seen a few really shitty (and supposibly 'new') engines, and a few rebuilds that wouldnt even make 80psi on a compression gauge (susposed to be high 110s).

The renesis is almost identical, so Id imagine it would be the same. Just keep an eye on all fluid levels, flush them every year, do reg oil changes, change spark plugs (I usually do it every 3 or 4 months) and wires and all that crap. But dont drive the car hard when its cold. Always let it get to full operating temp.

I do not understand the suggestion of changing the spark plugs every few months. You suggest that this should be done for the whole life of the car ?

This is very different from any other car.

No, actually you should change the spark plugs once in a while. They get corroded and they misfire, not good.
Most things in the car need replacing or cleaning, at some point, and since sparkplugs fire so much, they need service more often.

Currently in Toronto downtown, freezing my balls off in this cold weather....not kidding!

My first 7 was a 93 FD3S Touring SS back in 1995 in Vancouver, BC. Current one is pictured below :)

Just sold my Z32...hopefully I can pay the RX8 in 60% followed by 40%...lol....yeah right..

Very looking foward to RX8 coming onto the roads for years to come..... this project is long overdue :)

Yellow/black GT (seems everyone else is jaded by all the yellow prototypes, but I still think it looks great!)

Have missed rotaries since I bought my RX3 in 1975 (my age is probably showing!)
Went to Jarman in Edmonton because of the fantastic service they gave my '3', the engine developed an internal antifreeze leak problem at 104,000 miles, (and I was the second owner!)
"It is covered by a warranty extension sir, bring it in and we will put a new rotary in for you." My cost $110 for some other parts. (It WAS a long time ago!)
I still cannot give Mazda enough credit for that.

Anyway, I am back.
(My GT seems to be coming in at $2652 over the $39595 MSRP at $42047 plus GST..... seems like a LOT of beer money is included.)

My personal favourite is Black, but thats because my 83 RX-7 GX (that was the loaded model in 83) was black.

I have been doing some very serious money numbers crunching and weighing all the possibilities of what to buy and so forth.

The RX8 is still high on the list, but I am afraid it is loosing ground to the 2004 WRX-STi arriving in May. I don't want a car that has to sit winterized for 6 or more months and keep driving my old shit box Saturn. So the verdict is, new car this year, and loose the Saturn. I don't want to drive an RX-8 in the winter, especially after this freaken long cold winter we have had in Winterpeg this year.

FYI - This WRX bad boy runs 0-60 in 4.6 with a 2.5L - 300HP turbo engine.

Now I know what you're all thinking "Benedict Arnold" well not so. If the money crunching works in my favour, I'll have both cars by early or mid 2005 :D I've waited more then 3 years for that stinken RX-8, whats another year or two? Not alot in the big picture.....And who knows, maybe the RX-7 will be coming by then.

Well thats my dream for tonight and thats the work load for my accountant.

I love the interior, and the SatNav (- does anyone know whether it incudes a trip computer function?)
I am also psyched to open up the stock air box, possibly add a K&N, and see what the intake howl really sounds like! It must be phenomenal with three tuned resonator stacks on the induction system! Guess I will have to wait and see, there is not much chance of anyone posting the actual sound (and the available sound files - like the 'Japanese Gear Shift Revving' one - sound way too much like an angry sewing machine.)
