A boat arrived here on the 22nd of Nov @ 2:38 in the morning. It was holding the next shipment of rx8's.

Has anyone got theirs yet? I'm hoping to have mine tomorrow, 24th nov.

So when do you get yours?

Kas

Hopefully tomorrow, tuesday.

I rang the dealer 12 hours after the ships arrival and requested that he go pick it up. He said he would but it has to pass customs and then go to the distro center to have some things fitted to it. The distro place is 10 mins from the dealer, so tomorrow i'm going to bust hit nuts to go fetch my ride.

It should be tomorrow anyways, mazda runs a pretty tight schedule i'd imagine

Cool... good luck... hope you get it tomorrow

My friend got his on the weekend. Was told that only 900 are coming into Oz until the end of the year & his one is car 100884.

Already starting to do the dealer fitted options to it today. All purchased seperately to save on the luxury car sales tax eliment.

dmrh, what day did he pick it up? as the ship it came on was in sydney in the early hours (3:00am) on the 20th nov. Means i'll have mine tomorrow !!!

Hows the driving going? have you put alot of kms on it yet?

Kas

your not going to believe this!!

Mazda distrobution center would not release the car to my dealer as they ran out of spare wheels! Mazda aus was meant to call me today to ask for my cencent to release the car without the wheel and to install it on my first service. what a wank!

So, i'll be getting the car tomorrow. without a spare wheel

I heard a similar thing, except that I heard that it was 900 cars between now and the end of 2004. Anyone else heard these rumours??

Hi Kas, i'm getting mine tomorrow (wednesday), had the same dramas regards the fitting of the spare but was told it was the the bracket not the actual wheel. After following the ships progress, could not understand why after its arrival (@ 0400 on 17/11, man i'm obsessed) it still wasn't at the dealer on the 19th. After many calls to the dealer, he managed to get the last bracket direct from mazda australia so it turned up at the dealer on friday 21st. How it's possible to build and get the vehicle to the city where it's being sold without planning the fitment of required parts dumbfounds me.

PS. Know how frustrating the extra wait must've been for you considering how long you've been waiting so long, it was driving me insane

hi aussie!

So yours was on an earlier ship by a few days? Interesting. There was 9 rx8's on the ship that mine came on.

No don't... don't want the price of used models to drop unnecessarily. Not that I consider the RX-8 an investment (unless it is considered a failure and the last rotary mazda makes).

Hi Guys, my RX8 turned up in brisbane around the 11th of Nov as well. If anyone is interested, the ships name is 'Franconia'. I'm actually from Darwin and am flying down to the Gold Coast to pick up my baby on the 15th of Dec. Unfortunately I couldn't get off work any earlier!! My ex is a Mazda dealer and you all may be interested to know this new batch of RX8's have been fitted with the oil sump baffle fix out of the factory. So no retro fit needed. :)

Hi NT Rotor Head -- Welcome to the forum. So are you suggesting that any batch prior to the current batch need the sump upgrade?

Can your ex let us know what VINs are affected?

Welcome rotor head. Darwin is one of my favorite places in Aust.

KAS - Get out there and put another 4700km on the clock so that you can start working on your turbo install! If I have to wait much longer, I might do something rash like purchase a rotary extreme intake or something. Drive son, drive!

G'day Sco, I'm unsure whether RX8's delivered to aust before the current lot had the sump baffle fix done at the factory. I'll get my ex to chase that up and get back to you ASAP.

Thanks mate, really appreciate it.

That's a nice collection of rotaries you've got/had. And you're lucky enough that you can get out of town and legally give them some stick! :D Methinks I'll have to do a little side trip to the NT sometime just to give my '8 a good run. But I'll probably need to fill the boot with an aux tank :p

DGW, i'd be driving now however i'm on the whitsundays taking a relaxing break. actually, why am i even here, on the net that is ?

I'll have the 4700 kms on real soon, i recon I can do about 900-1000 a week, might have to do more like a trip to sydney and canberra and maybe adelaide.

Its funny, i got my car on wednesday night, did 300 kms and left early thursday to my holiday. I miss my car so badly. But the girls in bikini's are helping.

See you all in another week.

Hey Dez

There was a problem with the earliest cars which would have them flashing low oil lights under big throttle or hard cornering. Seems to have been identified some months ago and my car (Sept delivery) shows none of the symptoms ..

I'd love to go for a cruise L&L, but I have only 3 days to drive back to Darwin. I swapped a shift at work to get an extra day as it is. I cant even justify stopping in Mt Isa for my 1000km service incase they take too long! :(

Maybe on your next visit , it will be interesting how your rx8 handles the darwin temperatures , as it loves cool strong winds best .
Anyhow i envy the fact that you get to drive your baby all the way back to darwin , heck if it wasnt for family commitments i would join you in the rx8 darwin run , have a safe trip .

G'day again sco,

I've just heard back from my ex about the oil sump baffle fix. Apparently Mazda Aust wont give the dealers (let alone owners) a cut off VIN for the sump fix being fitted at the factory. Individual owners have to ring a dealer to have thier VIN checked to see whether the fix has been fitted or not.

I hope that helps.

NT Rotor Head - I had rung Mazda AU going back a month now regarding the oil sump baffle fix. Mazda wouldn't let me know which VINs were affected and they also stated that they would only replace the oil sumps if owner's complained about the symptoms (ie. low oil warning).

I suspect my VIN is affected (July 03 build) but I've not had any symptoms as yet. As soon as I do - it's going in for the fix.

Pappy, why wait? July 03 means that you definately have one of the defective baffles. It's only a matter of time before you get the light, and when you get it, it's a pain in the arse. I'd be getting it replaced ASAP if for no other reason than you get a free oil change.

Thanks for the Tech highlights CD too! Can't wait to take a look.

DGW - good point. I have been contemplating booking it in for the change - as you say it will only be a matter of time. Will give Mazda a buzz and get it organised.
