The Canadian sports channel, TSN ( www.tsn.ca ), runs a automotive review show called Motoring 2004. Every year, they do a Car of the Year selection (the Canadian Automobile Journalists Assoc. also does one).

Motoring's Car of the Year web site is here: http://www.motoringtv.com/caroftheyear.html . On the right side of the web page, there's a box for the online poll ( link to make it even easier! (http://www.motoringtv.com/pollhome.html) ). PLEASE go check it out, and vote for the RX-8 - in 2 categories, Sports Coupe AND in Car of the Year!

Right now, the RX-8 has a huge lead in the Sports Coupe category, but is in 2nd place for Car of the Year. Not a lot of votes are in yet, so we can make a big difference if everyone votes for the RX-8! (350Z and G35C fans, your cars aren't even listed, so you might as well vote for the RX-8 too ;) )

Regards,
Gordon

woo-hoo... now tied for first! Keep them votes a-comin'. Btw, to clarify other discussions on the matter, the poll says because the '8s rear doors do not open independent of the front doors, it is a coupe. Glad that is finally cleared up. ;-)

Well, in the 'sports coupe' category, what are the ones to beat? The Solara and the Crossfire? Hm... doesn't seem to be even a close call to me.

The 'car of the year' category... now that's not so easy to predict. As much as I dislike Cadillac, the XLR is a pretty sweet machine, and the Mazda 3 is a great little car too. Of course the BMW 5-series is not too shabby either. We will see how it works out.

At least I put in my two votes for the 8 :D

Well, the 8 and the XLR were tied for first with 19 votes each 2.5 hours ago. Now the vote is 41-19; the Caddie hasn't budged. Keep them votes coming!

I think this forum is so active, it should be no problem for the 8 to win both polls.

Well done, let's keep it going! If someone hasn't checked it yet, please go and vote! (Nice to see lots of people also voting for the Mazda3 in the Economy Car category! :D )

Gordon

Not for me... I get as far as selecting the RX-8 over the Camry Solara and Chrysler Crossfire, click VOTE! and get nothing but a 500 Internal Server error. Sigh.

Looks like the Acura TL has overtaken the Mazda3 for second place in the overall Car of the Year category and is closing in on the RX-8 - come on people, click the link and vote for the RX-8! (Both for Sports Coupe and Overall!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I voted on all categories and My pick was tops on all but the mini-van, and even that was a very close second.

True, but the cars they put it up against are a joke and it seems that poll overall is as well, pretty easy to stuff the ballot with so few other people voting. Not that it would really matter... I mean c'mon Crossfire and Solara... What the hell is MotoringTV anyhow?

C'mon, Ike, READ!!! The very first line in this thread tells you what MotoringTV is. If you want your opinions taken at all seriously (as you say), at least put the tiniest bit of effort into forming them, instead of just mouthing off ignorantly.

FWIW, it's been on the air for over 10 years, and is generally an objective, entertaining show. Go back to their web site and read some of the Jim Kenzie spots - Kenzie's Korner (http://www.motoringtv.com/kenzie/index.html) - sort of an Andy Rooney take on motoring issues.

Gordon

I don't give a damn if Walter Kronkite worked for motoring TV, it's a godawful list of cars and they should be ashamed for compiling one that lacks so many cars.

Economy Car:
Toyota Echo Hatchback
Suzuki Swift
Chevrolet Aveo
Mazda3
(The Prius isn't an economy car??? Civic, Elantra)

Family Car:
Chevrolet Malibu
Mitsubishi Galant
Toyota Prius
(Accord, Mazda6, VW Passat, Camry)

Luxury/Prestige:
Audi A8
BMW 5 Series
Jaguar XJR
(No Merc, No Infiniti, No Lexus???)

Sports Coupe:
Chrysler Crossfire
Mazda RX-8*
Toyota Solara
(G35C, 350Z, Accord Coupe, RSX, CobraR, Eclipse GTS, Celica GTS...)

Sports Sedan:
Acura TL
Nissan Maxima
Volvo S60R
(3 Series, G35)

Performance Car:
Dodge Viper
Cadillac XLR
Audi S4
(CobraR, Corvette, M3, Something AMG)

Minivan:
Ford Freestar
Nissan Quest
Toyota Sienna
(Who cares)

SUV:
Cadillac SRX
Lexus RX 330
VW Touareg
(MDX, Pilot, GX470)

Pickup Truck
Dodge Ram
Ford F150
Nissan Titan
(Chevy?)

C'mon, that list is a joke, and the RX-8 should be running away with the lead with or without your guys help. Forgive me if I listed cars that are not available in Canada (I know the EVO isn't), but I know many that I did are, and there are many other cars that I didn't list that could have made for a better list.

C'mon, Ike, THINK!!!!!!!!!!!!! What do all the nominees have in common? They are all new or updated models. The alternatives you listed are models introduced one or more years ago. They were considered - in their year of introduction, thus in their year of eligibility - which isn't this year. Sigh.......
