Found this on the RX-8 bulletins posted on Finishline:
http://www.finishlineperformance.com/pdf/rx8/bulletin/01-027-08-1900.pdf

09 MTs now idle at 3500rpm for 180 seconds (3 minutes!) :Eyecrazy:
In comparison, earlier years only did so for 10 seconds.

This was probably done to prevent flooding as the car would heat up faster.

Personally, I hate it when a car does this; I always wait for the car to idle a while anyway. My brother's K20 engine Civic did this very bad too. It feels like the engine is self-destructing as soon as you start it.

Also makes me wonder about folks who test drove the 09s claiming much better response in the low RPM range- although it's also b/c of the new gear ratio, could it be the car is still on fast idle when they drive it out (so the car is actually applying some of the throttle)?

Thats nuts, and yea I am sure its to heat it up quicker. It would just give a horrible feel to the car IMO. Nothing like buying a car that sounds like it has a bad IAC valve.

NOTE:
• The fast idle duration is only active until the pre-delivery mode is cancelled during PDI. The
pre-delivery mode is cancelled by driving the vehicle for 5 consecutive miles.

Dont you have some threads to monitor to make sure people use the search?

Dont you have other threads to drag off topic by commenting on how another post wasnt pertaining to the topic?

And what's wrong with searching? Cant believe how much info there is on this forum... and it's already here! no waiting!
