View Full Version : Anyone using Non-OEM Spark Plugs?
AstronomerB 07-19-2008, 05:36 PM Just checking the price of OEM Spark plugs
Trailing: 34.56
Leading: 40.68
NGK Platinum Plugs
Trailing: 14.99
Leading: 11.99
BIG DIFF IN PRICE!!!
I'm not looking to mod my car, but if they will work just as good as OEM then Im happy!
Anyone comment on whether I should by them or go with OEM
Thanks
nycgps 07-20-2008, 06:42 AM The Platinum plugs u mention are for Rx-7. You can use RX-7 Plugs, but since the length of the plug are different (one shorter than the other), u will need to use some spacer. another thing about Rx-7 plug is that they last 1/2 as long.
You can get a Set of OEM plugs for around 85 bux @ sparkplugs.com (including shipping)
Or you can get Rx-7 plugs with spacer from places like Mazsport.
Razz1 07-20-2008, 12:56 PM there are three members that have tried Denso.
I believe two of them are still using them.
However they don't post the results. Since they are still using them they work.
I know in motorcycles they give you more performance.

yeah 6700 and 6701, my page is showing 19.95 each of them. so I dunno what sparkplugs.com page u're looking at.
RufusVonStorm 07-22-2008, 12:46 AM I'm using the NGK rx-7 plugs from the mazsport site, they're working fine
Just make sure not to mix up your plugs when installing

me too - is there any truth to what nycgps says about them lasting 1/2 as long ?

I've been running them for a couple years now.
I'm now starting to question if my plugs are going bad.
I'm going to fork out the ~$80 to get the "correct" plugs and see if the feel of my car changes.
My "butt-dyno" tells me that the car isn't performing as smoothly as it did in the past when I accelerate.
Of course there are numerous things that can contribute to this, but the plugs are probably the cheapest place to start.
MazdaManiac 07-22-2008, 05:01 AM My scenario might not be typical, but I replace my plugs at least twice a year.

Sorry!
The ones I priced at the beginning of this post are off the Mazsport site.
The ones I ended up buying and giving to the dealer to instal are from sparkplugs.com
I thought they were the same NGK plug.
two rotors 07-22-2008, 12:39 PM For less expensive leading plugs, order part no N3Z4-18-110,the price is about $25.00 and the part inside the package is an NGK RE7C-L just like the part no you pay $40 for.
auzoom 07-23-2008, 04:44 AM I have been using the denso but I put them in when the turbo went in so nothing really to report other than I am using them.
