What's exactly is a troll?

And why r they called a troll?

I c. But why troll? How'd this name come about? Just curious cos it seems everyone knows to call troll. Thx!

Definition of a Troll:

As a verb: To fish by trailing a lure or baited hook from a moving boat.
(In other words, a forum board Troll baits unknowing forum members by making inflammatory statements, with either an aim to disrupt the exchange of important information or in many cases the Troll himself "get's off" merely by all the attention.)

As a noun: a giant/dwarf in Scandinavian folklore inhabiting caves or hills.
(Used in this context, a Troll is a user lacking in manners and often self-worth and chooses instead to "hide" behind fake usernames and misrepresentation.

I can almost understand a person that uses the Troll technique for some monetary advantage. I mean it's still cheap-shit but at least I could understand the motivation. But most trolls hang around forum boards with no other intention but to disrupt. I see this as a pathetic existence, I mean, are there really so many Golum's (smeagles) out in the real world? How truly sad......
