The Lancer EVO's US specs have been released.

http://www.mitsubishi-motors.co.jp/inter/NEWS/0210-03/0271.html

It looks a little heaver than I thought (3,256 lbs), but I guess the US safety standards added some weight (we have a lot of SUVS!).

Anyhow, a price under 30K, reasonable EPA estimated fuel economy (18/26), seating for up to 5 and gobs of power and grip; this car should be interesting (even without the various handling packages of its europeam counterparts).

I don't think this car will jeopardize the success of the RX8 because I think its supposed to have a limited production?? However, I could see some people who want more grunt and grip (with back seats) to prefer the EVO.

While, its not exactly my style (see my name), if the RX8 dissapoints - performance wise, I'd consider this car an alternative, though I'd prefer the WRX STI, since I feel it would be more realiable.

oh my god... i thought it'd look more like the EVO WRC car... jesus, it looks like the regular crapalicious Lancer beat to death, and then mangled for a while, with the ugliest ugly stick i've ever seen!!

"reduced air resistance"?? with a front end that makes swiss cheese look water tight?? well, if you say so...

sorry to be so sinical, but i really just don't like Mitsu's... :D heh heh... i'm such a snob sometimes...

honestly, though, i don't know how it would be possible that a car which may well be 300lbs heavier than the RX-8 to have better grip... but at the stop light?? it'd surely hand its ass right back to it... ;)

That front end reminds me of Hitler! I'm sorry, but that would be one sorry sight from the rear-view mirror of my new RX-8 :)

Wakeech don't worry.. It's not coming to Canada. Stupid 5mph bumper law.. the FMIC apparently is in the way. :D

Even though this is a watered down version of the overseas legend, I think it will outclass the RX8 in most objective performance and handling measures, as much as it pains me to say that

I can see some prefering the RX8's looks, rotary feel, RWD and likely greater nimbleness and tossability, but I don't see this car being in too many RX8s rear view window.

Now, a future Mazdaspeed RX8 or RX7, that may be a different story.:D

Really? Disappointing. I would have liked to see one fly by on the road.

Yes, the front is odd. If I didn't know better, I'd have that is was a Hyundai. Still, 271 HP and 273 ft-lbs for <$30K and 4 doors (I have a kid) is very attractive and hard to beat.

The RX-8, MazdaSpeed 6, Evo and WRX Sti will all be fighting hard for my money in the next couple of years. Being a Mazdaphile, I would naturally prefer the RX-8 or MazdaSpeed 6, but depending the reviews, price, and availability, I could choose one of the other two mentioned above. Currently, the MazdaSpeed 6 is in the lead due to the larger interior room, slightly larger engine displacement (smaller engines need to work hard to produce the same amount of power), and styling, though the new Scuby is looking good too. Though, the RX-8 is the best looking of the bunch.

The car seems great performance wise, but DAMN that is one ugly mofo.:( If you wanted to drive this car in public, it would cost just as much as the RX8. Why? Because you would need to spend thousands just so i could live with myself every time i saw it.

that wing is nothing new. I've been in the Subaru community for 3 years now... All the older STi's had stupidly large wings.

It's a great performance car for the money. What other cars will have 14" 4-piston Brembo brake, 4wd, Recardo seat, 19psi of turbo, and 0-60 under 5 sec for around $29k?
But why oh why did they have to put all this wonderful performance parts into the ugly-ass current Lancer?!? Why couldn't they just bring the last generation EVO VII or better yet EVO VI?
This car was on the top of my list along with the RX-8. But now it has been banished. Maybe if I turn off the light...
