View Full Version : Which COLOR to choose????
sto16 11-21-2003, 02:11 PM Hi,
Any suggestion on the colors for the RX-8.
PLEASE HELP!
In person, I saw the black one and silver.. both are nice. But, I'm a owner of a black Corolla and it gets dirty pretty fast.
THANKS!
SCiMMiA 11-21-2003, 02:14 PM You forgot yellow.
sto16 11-21-2003, 02:15 PM I EXCLUDED YELLOW SINCE I PERSONALLY DON'T LIKE THAT COLOR. NO OFFENSE!
MikeDemo 11-21-2003, 02:18 PM Titanium Gray , all the way, it has a way of looking like a diff color in different times of the day and depending on weather, very cool
brothervoodoo 11-21-2003, 02:57 PM You don't like green either? Just like black (maybe better) ;)
Knerk 11-21-2003, 03:04 PM Blue is the way to go, other than green it seems to be the hardest color to find.
cruzdreamer 11-21-2003, 03:18 PM Silver.....looks good and clean all the time. It's a bright color and it shows the lines of the car the most I think. All colors are good though.......I kept going back and forth between grey and silver......grey was just too dark...especially on the gloomy days!
Elara 11-21-2003, 04:23 PM Green. You want green. Even though you left it off the poll for some odd reason.
NAVILESRX8 11-21-2003, 07:17 PM I wanted a winning blue RX8. But I got a black one. Dunno why...just did. I voted blue.

RX8by 11-21-2003, 07:30 PM I love the Red. When the sun shines on it the metalic metalflake really shines
SCiMMiA 11-21-2003, 08:01 PM Come on. You know all of you with colors other than gray *wish* you had gone titanium. Quit making this guy's decision harder.
You take the blue pill and the story ends. You wake up and believe whatever you want to believe.
You take the YELLOW pill and.... Zoom Zoom!
I like all the colors except green and yellow. My personal favorite would have to be blue though :).
Velocity red in the sunlight has no peer!!!
Hayseed 11-21-2003, 08:27 PM Can't imagine anyone not liking green if they've actually seen one. Nothing like what's in the brochure or on the Mazda site. Gotta go green.
brothervoodoo 11-21-2003, 08:38 PM Sink your teeth into some titi gray....
ptiemann 11-21-2003, 08:39 PM I think it looks great in all colors but I wouldn't get get silver or titanium. Seems that every other car is silver, you'll just have a hard time finding it on the parking lot.
I got myself a black one, blue would be my second choice.
Edit:
Yes, I wash it all the time. Love it :-)
RX-GR8 11-21-2003, 08:45 PM velocity red.
Senseny 11-22-2003, 09:08 AM I love blue, the other two great colors are the titanium and the nordic green.
Lock & Load 11-22-2003, 09:35 AM GUESS WHICH COLOUR ROCKS ???
CraziFuzzy 11-22-2003, 11:41 AM I think the car looks best in blue, but i REALLY liked the red/black interior, so i went with a black car so i could get it, afterall, the interior is what i see most of the time anyways.
rxeightr 11-22-2003, 01:00 PM I get a ton of positive comments on the Blue.
Nordic Green is a wicked choice too.
wish I could see the current poll results, but since there's no yellow, I refuse to throw a bogus vote just to see the results. grr.

paendragon 11-23-2003, 12:01 PM All RX8s in all colors are outstanding, but my lowly opinion on the colors would go:
black - mutes the lines of the car too much.
green - an overdone color on cars in the 90's so now I can't look at it without thinking I'm looking at a dodge stealth..etc etc
titanium - a nice color, but have you noticed that it seems like 75% + of the peeps here have that color? I'm thinking it's going to be the "there must've been a sale on that color at wal-mart..." car.
silver - very slick color - very grown up...only problem is the chrome + silver + tail light inner details don't stand out so sharply against the silver color...
yellow -- yellow? are you a chick? ;) (just kidding all you yellow peeps!!)
red - seems too stock of a color...plus I have red hair - and I would clash to the point of distraction.
blue - it's the slickest - the lines are sharp, the chrome/silver details stand out nicely and it's "different" but not to the point of being an eye sore...only negative is that it's a younger color...finace told me I could get the blue one but at the risk of people thinking I was in high school
my vote - I'd like to be 18 chasing skirt again! -- blue all the way
Lets Rotor 11-23-2003, 08:03 PM I'm for silver or blue. Silver's better in my opinion

Literatii 11-23-2003, 09:44 PM Just thought I'd throw this in -- I never ever planned to buy a red sports-car til I saw the gold-mica in the Velocity Red. If you haven't seen it in person in the sunlight, do yourself a favor and check it out.
Literatii 11-23-2003, 09:48 PM brothervoodoo, I have the exact same appearance package -- but in Red. I think it's a great look.
MEGAREDS 11-23-2003, 10:50 PM 1. Yellow. Can't turn my head away, but friends wouldn't let me pull the trigger. I would have dropped my friends if Mazda had offered the yellow interior trim in the U.S.
2. Titanium. Classy color on a cool car; never needs to be washed. Sometimes wish I'd had other friends, though.
3. Silver. Trying to be Titanium. Afraid the Brittany video will take off; don't want to drive Britney's car.
4. Red, beautiful, but everybody's seen red. EVERYBODY.
5. Black. Nice when clean - never clean.
6. Green. Went through my Green phase years ago. Can't be objective.
7. Blue. Not particularly impressed (sorry).
Everyone has a strong opinion here... which is terrific. They've done a nice job spreading it around. I must say - they all look good.
S3/P3/E2 11-24-2003, 05:04 AM Have to go with the Titanium. No one around here has the green, but after seeing Elara's photos I was almost swayed. I've owned two red cars in the past, and I can't deny that Mazda did an incredible job with the flecks in this one; but I'm beyond the law-enforcement attention that goes with the red. I've wanted a nearly-charcoal colored sports car for a looooong time, so I'm afraid that TG is my choice.
sto16 11-25-2003, 05:59 AM I finally bought my GT RX-8. I choose silver, thanks for those beautiful pictures from brothervoodoo, that influenced my decision.
Can wait to get next week since I need to wait for my winter tires to arrive.
Thanks everyone.
Simon.
alfred 11-25-2003, 07:06 AM My opinion was: Any color is good as long as it is red :-) But! When I saw titanium (even only on pictures) it really got me!
So: Any red will do as long it's Titanium!
ptiemann 12-02-2003, 08:04 PM I was at the dealership today (first oil change), and they have an 8 in that Nordic Green.
Woah.. I liked black so far best, but this green,.. looks almost as good as my previous car.. which was chameleon blue-green, changing the color from blue to green with the angle of the light.
If I had seen that green on the day of purchase (they didn't have it then), I had taken it over black.

Black gets my vote. The color does somewhat mute the lines when dirty - and I never let my car stay dirty. When clean, there is nothing like a black RX8. It's quiet, refined, classy, stealthful and mysterious. I love it!
Vrimmick 12-02-2003, 08:49 PM I bought silver but now I think I like red better
zimmzimm 12-04-2003, 05:23 PM I got a 'Winning Blue', and it is (in my opinion) the best of the avilable bunch. I think the red is tooooooo much and is an invitation to your local cop to pull you over. Yellow is also over the top for me. If they offered the darker blue though that was used in the X-Men II movie, it would have been the dream color for me. Unfortunately that color (and the grill) were changed only for the film. According to my Mazda dealer there are no plans to come out with that color.

Switchbacker 12-05-2003, 12:56 AM Must be my age. Wasn't that long ago I was driving bright red or blue Corvettes. But when I was shopping for a four seater "sports car" and decided on the RX-8, I really wanted something that showed class versus flash, and the Nordic Green really hits the mark. It doesn't scream "look at me" as the yellow, red, and blue colors do. But everywhere I go, whether it be the car wash, store, or work, people comment about the color and how rich the car looks. And as the light changes, so does the color. Sometimes it has a hint of dark blue, other times it looks metallic black. And in the bright sunlight, the mica flecks really bring out the lines. IMHO, the lighter colors almost make the car look slightly cheaper (no offense meant, I still like reds and blues). All of this surprised me as I have never been a fan of green cars, but this particular Mazda color is quite unique and thought it was quite distinctive amongst the row of other RX-8s that were blue, yellow, red, silver, and titanium. And as a few people have pointed out, there are a ton of silver and titanium colored cars out on the road, so in some ways the Nordic Green (and Yellow) are even more distinctive. Anyway, just my observation.
DeNile' 12-05-2003, 08:23 AM Titanium at around dusk, with the sun setting can't be beat, it turns from gray to a purplish blue, girls dig it it. And at night its blueish gray, Can't beat it!

I would have to agree 100%

Lock & Load 12-05-2003, 05:13 PM Having been caught in one off the worst tropical rain storms that i have ever incountered in my 32 years of driving on a main highway doing over 110km , i know which is by far the safest colour as most colours including white were not as visible as my yellow , it was pissing down cats and dogs , and overcast hazy conditions , real trecheraus conditions .
silver , titanium could not be seen clearly black or green would have been invisible to the eye red blue, white ,were relatively better but the only real safe colour was YELLOW .
By the way my eyes are excellent , i belong to a pistol club and get my eyes tested once a year.

Isn't that why you use your lights in the rain? My experience is that no matter what color a car is, if it's really raining, you can't see crap until it's on top of you if it doesn't have lights on.
Lock & Load 12-05-2003, 07:37 PM Elara
HAD my head lights on and this was during day believe it the lights did not make a great difference , if anything they seemed to reflected back at you similar as if in a fog .
Had it been at night it would have been disastrous , have you ever driven thru a tropical storm ? its not very pleasant.
michael
Elara 12-05-2003, 08:38 PM No, but I have driven through a hurricane, and I really didn't see any visibility difference between car colors. Just whether they had their lights on or not. But then, that is just me :)
RX-GR8 12-06-2003, 11:31 PM why?
MazdaspeedRx8 12-07-2003, 04:13 PM If they had white i take white.
FirstSpin 12-08-2003, 10:14 AM Regarding the storm visibility issue. I'm not sure that LockandLoad ever picked up on the fact that people were talking about OTHER car's lights, not the lights in the car you're driving. (LockandLoad, the idea wasn't that YOUR lights help you SEE, it was instead that YOUR lights (or other peoples lights) will help to be SEEN in such inclimate conditions.
I will conceed that gray, silver, etc. "match" the color of a stormy horizon but as was pointed out, big honkin-red tail lights stand out under those conditions. And, I agree from my experience, it's the tail lights that I see when making my way through heavy rain or dense fog, not the car's paint color.
The extension of don't drive grey-ish cars in the rain is "don't drive black cars at night." Not a logical argument to be made for either, given that the rear end of the car lights up like a Christmas tree.
Never hurts to state the obvious...headlights in oncoming cars will have the same effects attributed to tail-lights in forward-bound cars described above....
Shooter 12-12-2003, 12:57 PM Nordic green cant be beat! I like that it looks like black or a dark grey color at nite and during the day the sun brings out the metallic green. I always get questions from people asking what color it is. Its definitely an original color......
Natew00 12-12-2003, 02:15 PM I chose Titanium for my RX8 because it looked great, and I hoped to avoid being even more obvious to the State Troopers. I also figured that getting a red or yellow RX would give my friends and co-workers even more amunition for claiming I was going through a mid-life crisis. There was no crisis, I just loved the way this car drove.
On a side note, every person who as seen my car has commented how great the color is...
but why ask us???? What is your preference?
MARYDOLL 12-13-2003, 04:51 PM I'd go with Red, Blue or Black....In that order.

Fancy that i would have thought being a young adult you would be a little bit more adventorous and go for a bright colour like yellow .
As they say in the AUSTRALIAN S.A.S (ELITE ARMED FORCES EQUIVALENT TO YOUR GREEN BERRETS OR NAVY SEALS IN USA).
