View Full Version : Fuel pump changed and new symptom shows up ~~!
nycgps 07-09-2008, 08:37 PM Ok, Fuel pump has changed. Thanks to Scott @ Mazsport :)
crank crank crank crank crank .... for maybe 10 seconds, finally fuel pulled up and engine started ~~~
well well well ~~~~~~
I had this P0661 problem for a while and I didnt really cared about but.
Now everytime I WOT , there is a "MAJOR" choke around 3750~ rpm.
I think* thats when the secondary injector turns on, right ?
Hmm, is it possible that when I was replacing my fuel pump, something went into the fuel line and when I "crank it" the "Stuff" gone to the secondary fuel injector ? :(
Or maybe there is something wrong with the connection on the fuel pump ? there is a fuel line I think they use it to drain fuel from the other side of the tank, if thats not "secure" will crap like this happen ?
ideas ? anyone ?
(Oh btw, after the choke @ 3750, the rpm goes up smooth till 9K, so I dunno)
MazdaManiac 07-09-2008, 09:04 PM What are the AFRs when your secondaries open (~3800 RPM)?
Does the MazSport pump have dual speeds like the OE setup?
Where and how did you run the vacuum line for the regulator?

I havent monitor the AFR yet. I will try that tomorrow morning. (Scanlyster has that option, I think)
Scott just lend me the tool to open the cap, I installed another "new" OEM pump.
how did I run the vacuum line ?? hmm u're talking about the tube that goes into the middle of the pump right ? ... I think I did it the way "stock" did it, and Im fairly sure that I secure the stupid "quick connect connector"
nycgps 07-09-2008, 10:54 PM Ok, got my AFR map.
The red circle means I shift from 1st to 2nd.
Then I pull the rest in the 2nd gear.
Plus, my CEL picture. :(
damn, when I first start my car b4, my LTFT is like 17% !!!! now its going down. like around 8, STFT is like -0.2% -_-
Notice, when I said I had "Chokes" at around 3750 rpm, I had about 1/2 tank left in my tank, after I made the post, I went to BP and Fill it all up. Choke at 3750 is gone but the choke now happening randomly, EVEN when I was doing the AFR picture pull. (but it chokes above 4.5K rpm randomly, if that helps)
hmm ... suck :(

nycgps 07-09-2008, 11:51 PM graph seems normal , but the driving was "choking" about 5K rpm.
I have 1 fearful thing in my mind tho ... the clutch slipping ? ....
oh shit, wait, let me pull the right AFR map up hold on ... I just noticed it :(
nycgps 07-09-2008, 11:58 PM shitz , I overwrite the one that has JUST THE AFR on it #)_!*$!_@*$!)#@$*!#)%*
Guess I will do another one tomorrow morning :(
but RPM is going up fine tho ... hmm weird :(
nycgps 07-10-2008, 12:00 AM oh one more thing, the *choke* only happens when I go Full throttle. if I go maybe 1/2 or whatever. it goes up just fine, no choke whatsoever.
MazdaManiac 07-10-2008, 12:03 AM Sounds like you twisted the pump as you installed it.
(BTW - the vacuum line question was because I thought you put in the MazSport pump, not an OE pump.)

Blah ! maybe I did, but I was really careful when I install it and made sure that the arrow is pointing forward the whole time hmm .... maybe the bottom part was twisted already ? I dunno ~
when I first start the car up, the car feels like completely lack of power. but maybe my butt dyno "adjusted itself" couple minutes later hmm ....
Maybe I will just take the pump out again when the fuel is low. next monday I suppose.
Gonna send Scott's tool back to him tomorrow(UPS cut off time was 5, didnt make it today)
this time Im gonna find myself another tool hmm. I guess I'll ask swoope :)
*oh hey MM, do I need to get myself another pump gasket? this gasket aint cheap ! I put a new one in today, no leak so far. but if I have to get another one ... *sigh*
swoope 07-10-2008, 12:42 AM P0661 SSV solenoid valve control circuit low ON 2 CCM ´ (See DTC
P0661 )
odd weird occurrence..
beers
swoope 07-10-2008, 12:47 AM uh,
scotts tool is better than having to megyver the stuff i used!!! :banghead:
check pm.

but the problem is I cant keep Scott's tool with me for life :(
I have to find my own tool ... Which Autozone tool did u loan b4 ? I have to go check it out.
or ... just take the pain and get the Mazda tool *sigh* ...
pm replied :)
tdiddy 07-10-2008, 10:08 AM I just borrowed the tool from my mazda dealership. They made me pay a hefty deposit but I got it back when I returned it. Have you asked them?
Also, the P0661 is a SSV CEL. Have you checked the vacuum lines on the vacuum chamber under the UIM? Have you checked the vacuum line going to the SSV actuator? Have you checked the SSV actuator? Have you checked the connector for the SSV solenoid valve?
You may not be having a problem with fuel. You could be having a problem with air.
MazdaManiac 07-10-2008, 03:26 PM I borrowed the tool from my dealer when I swapped my pump as well.
Actually, I borrowed the tech, too.
I just rolled over and gave my buddy Karl a few bucks to go out in the lot and rip the ring off and put the pump in.
I gave up on trying to beat that ring off the pump after two days and several broken teeth.
I even made a crazy tool with clamps and bolts and welded iron stock.
Even with the Mazda SST, it took a LOT of effort to get the ring off. Karl took a pretty good shot of gasoline right in the eye during the procedure.

I'm not that kind of guy but it must be nice to be so close to a mazda tech.
04RX8man 07-10-2008, 04:19 PM When your WOT does it almost feel that it's gettign too much fuel and not burning the gas fast enough? or is it like there is no fuel at all....depends on how it sounds i guess I would def check out the make sure it's install the right way with no twisting involved haha
nycgps 07-10-2008, 05:02 PM blah, the ring was a bitch to get off. but I managed to get it off without breaking anything, the tool from Scott was a big help :)
I just installed the Ron Davis Rad, MS CAI, and god damn It I forgot to get more coolant cuz I drain the engine block and now Im short on coolant ! :(
gonna go out and buy some, then gonna test the car out, will be back in a few hours.

Lol. Yeah, I guess that didn't come out right.
Karl's pretty butch, though!:spank:
Jedi54 07-10-2008, 06:04 PM nycgps: stop fooking with your car and you'll be fine. ;)
nycgps 07-10-2008, 09:07 PM Back from testing.
Still hesitating. above 4K rpm.
Temp wise, I will say the Ron Davis/Re-Medy/Paul's Radiator lower the temp much much faster than Koyo. but its still spike like when I had the Koyo Rad. Highest I've seen is 107 Celsius. and its just 88 outside.
As "always" temp climbs up fast if I push the car hard.
Maybe I should go back to the basics, cheap the piece one by one. Till I find out the cause (hope its not the engine seals leaking, but it runs fine so maybe not)
nycgps 07-10-2008, 10:51 PM one more thing.
Anything above 95 Celsius on my Defi gauge will get me those "chokes"
Denotation anyone ? -_-
alz0rz 07-11-2008, 12:58 AM nycgps what are you doing to your car!!!
nycgps 07-11-2008, 01:05 AM trying to figure how to get it to lower the temp.
its not fan related, at least I already replaced motor #2 myself.
its not rad related
Now Im going to do it step by step, Thermostat tomorrow. Cuz it seems like if I push the car hard, the water flows slow so that temperature builds up in the engine, result is even higher temp. problems will go away as soon as I let my right foot off the throttle. :|
swoope 07-11-2008, 02:26 AM idea #
1 air in system
2 fans not running right. and yes i know you replaced them.
3 are you still running the mazsport cooling mod?
beers
nycgps 07-11-2008, 07:42 AM 1. Could be, I will try to bleed it again
2. I replaced motor #2. maybe I should get a voltmeter to test #1 as well
3. I never have Mazsport cooling mod.
Im going out to buy tons of coolant, distilled, and coolant system flush stuff right now, Will replace the thermostat, flush, refill, drain, and refill with coolant today.
will see what happens later. wish me luck ~
olddragger 07-11-2008, 11:51 AM have you checked the electrical circuits to the pump, making sure she is jumping up to full blast phase? The times you are describing it occurring are roughly the times the pump is supposed to go into the ho mode. :)

1st, get the cooling mod or the rb or ap flash..
i would not drain the system.. just put the nose up on jackstands or nose up on a steep driveway.
remove rad cap. start car and let it come up to operating temp.. have the heater set to hi during this process.
that usually will get all the air out of the system..
beers
nycgps 07-12-2008, 01:48 AM strangely, the *choke* is kinda "gone hmm ...
I might not be pushing it hard enough. Its friday night cars were like fooking nutz everywhere.
Gonna try more tomorrow.
OD : Hmm, could be. but the choke is "kinda" gone now. I will check it out tomorrow morning.
Swoope : Im planning to get the rb flash, I know I can get AP, but I wont go turbo or whatever for a while, and it only cost me 150 to reflash. in a year or 2 I will get AP.
For the bleeding thing, yes I re-did it today, With the AC switch off and blast it full speed on heat. it wasnt that great to sit inside the car with 92 degrees outside while blasting Full heat on your face. But hmm, I think I did got most of the Air out if not all. Coolant does seem to be a bit lower, but Im STILL seeing 100 Celsius water temp -_-
Still trying to figure how to take the god damn thermostat housing off, I cant take the bolt behind the housing off, stuck there, have to put everything back together grrrrrr :(
alz0rz 07-12-2008, 01:50 AM Hottest I've been running in the city lately is 212f and that is driving not so easy with the A/C on..
nycgps 07-12-2008, 01:57 AM my city driving today range from 192 to 221 ...
hmm ... maybe I should really get RB flash back ... the lower temp fan on thing really helps ...
StealthTL 07-12-2008, 02:01 AM To test the rad fans, you don't even need a meter - pull the relays and jumper them one by one.

really,
if you are not going to rb flash soon or do the ap..
get it.. really get it!!!

I replaced motor #2 already. maybe I should give #1 a try, although it seems to be working just fine ... well #2 was working fine too, but after I swap it, when the speed is on High, wow the wind is so much stronger. :)
Outkast187 07-16-2008, 09:51 AM I had the exact same problem a couple years back, probably the same problem. Same symptoms, different car.
