Has anyone besides me noticed a real attack of the trolls on this board the last couple of days? Funny how they started right after Ike WRX got banned...

MODERATORS, may I ask that you consider being a bit quicker to delete threads that were clearly created by trolls JUST for the purpose of bashing the 8? I don't mind threads where we debate the relative merits or demerits of ANYthing, but the ones where someone comes in and says "The 8 SUX, nya nya nya nya!!!" are pointless and counterproductive. The thread by "Forum Troll" (how obvious can you get?) that's now been deleted was a great example. Most of these trolls are probably kids who don't even OWN a car, to say nothing of an 8 or competitor, and they get their kicks out of starting flame wars.

This forum exists for people who LOVE the 8, and want to talk about it and/or improve it... NOT for trolls who just want to piss us all off. Please take a more active roll in keeping it a great place for all of us *RX-8* owners, or potential owners.

When did Ike get banned?? what are you talking about?

Well - Like I said earlier, I would have deleted the thread if I had the power in that forum. Have just a little patience... we have full-time jobs (most of us, I think) - Not meant in a mean way, just realistic.

Fair 'nuf. Perhaps all the mods could be given global delete? I notice that at least one of you is usually logged on, so if you all had global delete authority, you could kill these ignorant posts before they get out of hand.

And speaking of negative posts, I had another thought after I started this thread. Maybe when we move to the new board that's in development, and you moderators migrate all the posts from this one over there, you could NOT migrate the negative ones? Just a thought to pass on.

Yeah, what Hetz said- I saw one troll thread before lunch, but I was being dragged out the door by coworkers. Sorry. We try to be on as much as possible, but it's very difficult sometimes.

And yeah, I've noticed the troll increase as well. Starting to get really annoying.

And Omicron, we ARE on the new boards :)

That would be a lot of entries to look over in the database. I believe Ryan said the database was around a couple of GB's. Also, RX-8 Forum will just be "beta" testing the new design before we do what we REALLY want to do with it. Not really beta testing it, but using it first... since it's already in beta testing right now on a different server.

Edit: Just saw what you posted Elara... this is not the new board :) I think you mean host. In which case, you are correct. Now that I think of it, the SQL database won't be messed with right off.

I volunteer to help clean up when we move to the new board, and I'll bet a bunch of other established board members would help out too.

Not meaning to dis the Mods at all either, I think you guys do a great job. But as the popularity of this wonderful car grows, the participation in this board will get larger and larger, and the trolls will get more and more frequent. Speaking from experience (I've moderated several boards over the last 5 years or so), I can tell you that what works is a big push to clean things up, before they get out of hand, then it only takes a little active effort to keep them that way.

y'know, it actually takes some energy to hate something...these people go out of their way to create a user name, or several for that matter, and post rediculous statements to do what? get a rise out of a few people?

if you really take a step back and think about this, it's actually quite sad...do these people really have that much time on their hands? well the best thing to do in cases such as these is to completely ignore these threads...getting upset and posting comments only feeds the trolls, which is exactly what they want you to do...it's entirely obvious they're not here to debate or have intelligent conversations, so why give them the satisfaction?

EDIT: PS - we should all feel kinda proud that there's something about the 8 that makes ppl do such things...is it envy? jealousy? just plain stupidity? all of the above?

I have an idea.
Let new members register, but make it wait 1 week before they can post.
That would make it a pain to create new memberships just to troll.

Yes, that's what I meant- same difference to us non-computer geeks on here. (btw, I use "geek" in the nicest possible way, since I married one).

Can someone answer this? I was away for the weekend. IMO, Ike had a biting wit, but was fair. What did I miss? Does someone get banned for criticizing the RX-8 (which I have never done), but not banned for making the kinds of truly distasteful sexist remarks I've seen posted by some others?

Right, I just went through that thread. Everyone was throwing s**t, some of it much worse than the stuff Ike was throwing.

I'm sure I'll be told this is off topic, but then again, the topics is trolls: bad call, in my view. The right call would have been to kill the thread before it got to that stage. Having said that, I understand that the mods can't be everywhere at all times.

It didn't help Ike's case out when other forum members' noticed that he was asking people on other forums to come troll on this one. That was not cool and he deserved to get banned for it.

Correct, mods/admins can't be everywhere at all times and we have lives like all of us. Ike has not responded to personal e-mails to discuss the situation. The ban will stand.

Pad-locking this thread. Let's move on.
