hey

I'm looking at buying an rx-8, and I was wondering what the reliabililty is on early model engines. That's the only thing that's keeping me from this car. I previously owned an s2000, fantastic engine, and no matter how hard I beat the crap out of it, it would never fail. Would you buy your car again?

i was under the impression when u beat the crap out of the earlier s2000's, they'd just blow up in your face and that's why they reduced the redline? XD...

Redline was reduce due to the increase in displacement

i'd never buy the same car twice. i'd definitely keep a car i was impressed with till it died, but once it died i'd get something else. i like variety.

i'd probably look at the z3 m coupe, e46 m3, porsche cayman, honda s2000.

Haha, my friend from work sat in my car reved the engine a few times looked at me and was like, "I think I just got a woody!" reved a few more times looked back at me, "Yep, definatly got a woody."

I was laughing so hard. Now i've only had mine a few days now. But i'm already in love with it.

They dont make a hard top but they have a aftermarket Mugen Top, which is a carbon fiber top that replaces the stock clothy crappy top. lol.

If you get a white S2000 (which i had) and I had that carbon fiber top on it, it looked damn nice.

Since I previously owned a S2000, let me say this, I have a 2004 RX-8 with some MODS on it and it has 42,000 miles and I have never had a issue with it...Only issue was a defective gas cap and thats it. You maintain the vehicle and it will play nice with you. :) Just my two cents mate.

05rex8 - I hope you don't represent the rx8 community. This was not really a serious question, rather a half-assed introduction.

I'm this close to buying one, so thanks all for sharing your opinions with me!

you need to do more research before posting threads like this. this goes out to everyone who does this. buy the car or not based on what you researched and not on what others think. simple. sorry you were offended, but seriously its a pointless thread

It's an "alligator mouth".

Crocodiles use the metric system.

Some of the 04, 05,06,07,08 rx8's have had issues. Fact is, all cars have some problems. The early build 04 cars had more problems than the later 04 cars. I think mazda dropped the ball by not making sure that the dealers inform the buying public about the care and feeding of the renesis. This forum is a great resource with a bunch of very knowledgeable owners and machanics. Be careful though ,there is a lot of crap posted here also that is not true. For example, some owners have trashed the car because of their own ignorance or stupidity. High rpm launches will eventually kill any transmission, clutch, or differential. The 8 is not a race car or a drag car, it is a sports car for the driving enthusiast. I think this car is as reliable as any other car if treated as such. Only time will tell if the renesis has the stuff to make it past the dreaded 100k mark. I think it will. When you find a car you like , talk to the owner , get the maintenance records, and take it for a good long test drive. Make sure all the recalls and tsb's have been done. I would buy this car again . Cheers.

+1

All the questions you asked have been answered in a bunch of other threads - since you're registered on the site, searching is especailly easy (no putting in a code to use the search)

Best of luck with your purchase.

had mine 04 since 05, no problems here . also have 50k on the engine now. but if your are worried about the 8, maybe a civic is the right choice for you.

It is pretty isn't it? I can see it from my house..

You must live near King or Tobaccoville! I used to drive up Rt 52 all the time to get the the Blue Ridge Parkway and sometimes on to Tennessee.

I lived in Tobaccoville for 11 years until I moved up to Northern, VA (NOVA) in 1997 - sure wish I still lived there.

Honestly, I haven't had a single problem with my 8, and I've had her for just over 12 months now. Its a 6spd 07' model.

I cannot explain how much I love my car, I look forward to driving her everyday.

I can't believe I still get comments almost daily, on a 5 year old design.

Sorry I haven't been posting in my own thread for a while. Thanks for not flaming a noob hah. Anyways, i've looked through all the TSB's and the few recalls it has, and found that user maintenance and care is the way to keep this car going strong.

Also, I obviously know that this is my decision and mine alone. To the people that think choosing a car is an easy decision, it's not, period. There's no easy way to throw down 15k, and pretend to yourself that it was necessary to buy a car like the rx-8 instead of a gas saving prius or civic.

RX-8 here I come :)
