View Full Version : Just got mugged at Toronto's Canada Day
VelociRedBeast 07-01-2008, 03:22 PM So..I wake up a little early and decide to take a walk through College Park which is where Canada Day/Cannabis Day is going to be held here in Toronto. They don't start 'till 2PM, it's 11:30 I decide to see what they are going to be setting up. I walk through the park and see some teens. They ask me if I need some supplies(For cannabis day) for later in a cool friendly way. They take me around the corner into an alley and I get "Welcome to Toronto bitch, empty out your pockets or your about to get crushed.".
I know people are not like that here in Toronto, I've lived here before. But it's 4:00 PM, no fun, no cash, and a headache from being the police station for 3 hours.
Just thought I'd give ya'll a warning.
Two males with a larger group of people. one black one white. black kid had a small printed phrase tattooed just under his collar-bone, and a few tats on his arms. The other guy was some skinny rat-looking loud-mouth, who did all the talking.
Hopefully they get caught and I can get my stuff back. Could use some people I can trust around here to hang out with around here.
Power to the Peaceful.
RX-GR8 07-01-2008, 03:26 PM that sucks man.
kimberly lynn 07-01-2008, 03:26 PM Damn, sorry to hear. That sucks man.
Feras 07-01-2008, 03:55 PM rough this is why you should carry grenades, nobody fucks with a guy who appears willing to kill himself along with his assailants. Its a level of badass cowardly criminals can't comprehend. Or just bring chuck norris with ya.

Brave thing to say for an Arab living under the Patriot Act. Lol. (If you don't remember I'm half-arab). Thanks Feras and Gr8. Good to see you guys again.
I just moved to Toronto and don't know anyone here. And now this happened...sux..
Davey's RX-8 07-01-2008, 06:05 PM I can't relate. Most people look up at me and step out of the way when I walk. I also tend to stay at a Holiday Inn Express.
RotaryP7 07-01-2008, 06:28 PM Damn, I thought that was only in movies.. The "welcome to Toronto bitch" line..
HeavyMetal699 07-01-2008, 07:15 PM Geez, if that would of happened to me I would of attempted to fight. I mean you got free medical, what's the worse that could happen?
Tigerfootball 07-01-2008, 07:20 PM hate to hear that. at least you are safe and hopefully those guys will be arrested. that is one reason I carry my gun on me when legally possible, but since you are in Canada......that presents a small problem.
anyway, good luck up there and I hope for all the best.
Detrich 07-01-2008, 07:55 PM sorry to hear that u got mugged. :(

RX7joey 07-01-2008, 08:24 PM sorry to hear it bro, keep your head up

This is bounty hunter is my kind of scum; fearless and inventive.
Feras 07-01-2008, 10:46 PM Remind anybody of an old movie?
yeah i got the idea from return of the jedi. lol
xsnipersgox 07-01-2008, 11:07 PM hahah, i would be, really? meet America! *fights* hahahahaa
RotoRocket 07-01-2008, 11:07 PM Wow. I spent two weeks in Toronto a few years back and had a great time.
I do recall talking to someone at the Hotel we stayed at who did tell us they were developing a 'gang problem,' though. Also, there were two drive by shootings in those two weeks in Toronto, which was all over the nightly news.
Sorry to hear that man. I hope you get your stuff back. Stay positive.
VelociRedBeast 07-01-2008, 11:41 PM The problem is I'm a peaceful person(Hint: Cannabis Day), prefer to turn frowns upside down than act hard and tough. \the guys were being cool and friendly at first so I let my guard down completely. I could have knocked the white guy out no problem, like I said he was extremely small. But the black dude was standing at a good angle and had the backpack open he was stuffing my stuff into. They could have anything in there, knife, gun, mace, tazer or an extendo which I hear are popular among street thugs here. They took a $250 necklace that I've had for 8 years, my Ipod and 80 bucks in cash
UPDATE: Credit card company reported that my card was used 3 times at stores near where I was mugged. Including a FootLocker and a Champs which the officer said she is pretty sure has cameras.
Thief 07-02-2008, 12:31 AM A mugging at College Park in the afternoon? WTF. That area is supposed to be one of the better, and high traffic areas of the city. That shit sucks man. I've experienced some bad shit in Toronto too. Got jumped once on the subway and ended up in hospital (flipped fingernail which made me bleed crap-tons everywhere). Most people don't go downtown too much anymore because of the crime. People have been moving out to the suburbs for a while now. Dude, since you say you've moved here, you need to come out for a meet. Get to know some peeps.

planning on it. I drove the 8 here from florida. The only way they said I could drive it here was if I imported it. So now my 8 is canadian. I'll be checking the canadian board for meets, trying to meet people downtown was a bad idea.
Thief 07-02-2008, 12:53 AM I was downtown all day today. If you had posted earlier, I woulda suggested to meet up and show you around.
VelociRedBeast 07-02-2008, 03:15 AM lol. woulda made a big diff. for the holiday. I did end up going to the harbour, me and my pops had a few drinks to try and cheer me up. Let me know next time your downtown. I live on Yonge/Bloor.

I work at Jarvis/Bloor so I'm downtown everyday.
Winfree 07-02-2008, 10:07 AM Hey Dude, welcome to the 60's!
I have observed that any time they are preaching Peace, Pot, and Promiscuity you are more apt to end old with muggings, crack babies, and AIDs!
Hope you do not have a concussion - but then again, if you get some 'stuff' you might not notice the difference!
Bastage 07-02-2008, 11:07 AM Man, that's messed up. Were you pretty far away from other people? If not, the sucker-punch and run tactic might have worked. I would have been like "please don't hurt me Mr. Criminal Man" and WHAM! Push the punched dude into the other guys and haul ass towards other people. The more witnesses, the less likely they are to pursue.
I really dislike people like that... !@#$ing Ticks & Leaches...
Winfree 07-02-2008, 11:25 AM Height Asbury used to be the most peaceful place ever - until Mary Jane moved in - then it was totally unsafe and unpeaceful.....
You might want to check out the mountains and lakes there for a more natural hi - but even there watch out they keep finding these sneakers with feet still in them.......
Davey's RX-8 07-02-2008, 12:22 PM Let me get this straight: You were mugged by unarmed stoners? Dude I just lost any and all respect for you.
Winfree 07-02-2008, 01:12 PM Interesting that they noted you were non local - these little Urchins probably look for prey in area right around there and it sounds like you were not the first victim - they probably have pulled this on the college set and other tourists... but they don't have the balls to go after people who know them .... bet they would be easy to set up for a police bust......A plain clothes operation might be interesting...
Also they sound like free-lancers - a gang would be more interested in keeping customers happy than in mugging them - and they would not like a couple of non-members getting the police stirred up and interested in the business... nope that would not be good for business at all... Wonder who the local chief is and if he would be interesting in quietly taking care of the area....
VelociRedBeast 07-02-2008, 06:43 PM they were part of a gang. Police said that the people who used my credit card weren't the same people who mugged me but probobly other gang members. The only thing that was my fault was I shouldn't have been wearing my chain and Ipod shuffle on my coat. They could have been armed. The black guy had slung his backpack over the front and had it open. God knows what he could have had in there. I could've stuck the one guy who was right next to me, but he guy with the backpack open was about 6 feet away towards the more public area. The other end had a lot of brush and trees. Trust me I'm not a wuss, I just made the smarter choice, if they get caught they have to pay restitution for what they stole, but if I got shot, sliced or tazed then beaten, I can't take that back. So I just stared at all tattooes, hair color, and any other features that would help.
Any other decision in that exact situation would have been the wrong one.
HeavyMetal699 07-02-2008, 10:01 PM My best advice is a gym membership, maybe some sort of martial arts/defense class, I'm not sure if guns are allowed in Canada but if they are get one.
Last but not least watch the movie RAMBO 4 24/7 for 6 months straight and memorize this quote "You know what you are. What you're made of. War is in your blood. Don't fight it. You didn't kill for your country. You killed for yourself. God's never gonna make that go away. When you're pushed, killing's as easy as breathing. "
Or just do the whole grenade idea.
Davey's RX-8 07-02-2008, 11:13 PM Or they could have seen a terrified dumbass high on weed and said, Heyyyyy easy score. Bottom line, you wussed out and they didn't even show or hint at a weapon
Winfree 07-03-2008, 11:39 AM I don't think he wussed out - sometimes disgression is the better part of valor - and if the cops can bring them in it may stop a lot more crime .... But I think getting the word out that a couple of free lancers are getting in the way of business never hurts... If you can't do something method direct there is always method oblique.... and if it is important enough you can be patient and wait a long time... There is a great wheel - what goes around comes around....
But I would stay out of dark alleys and avoid wacky weed - it can get you into even deeper trouble!
