I just want to thank those whoever helped me in my RX-8 troubles as well as conversing about various topics. I traded in my RX-8 this weekend.

This isn't me being like haha... my stupid 8 is gone. I know sometimes when people make these threads they have negative connotations.

By the way, I traded it in towards an interest free Saturn Sky Redline.

I just wish I could have sold it to someone I KNOW would have appreciated it. It's funny though because they gave me more for it on trade than anyone offered me while I was selling it for cash.

congrats man.... the Redline is a pretty fun car to drive,,, and looks really good to. the only gripe I have with it is the horrible fitment of the canvas top, It just looks silly,,, ,I havent looked into it but there has to be an aftermarket hard top for it

Sky is cool lookin car. I like the sharp lines rather than the smooth ones on the Solstice. The new Solstice Coupe looks badass though. Would be sweet if the Sky had hard top option out there.

Don't get me wrong, I like the mx-5. I think it's quite attractive.

RojoOcho
06-30-2008, 03:41 PM
I'm averaging 22 so far with lots of topless action. There's a constant MPG avg and instant MPG indicator in the HUD. It's 28 on the highway which I'm giddy about.

It is hard to not wanna feel that rush each time I get in... Wow that thing is fast.

Since people seem really interested, I'll make sure to post pics tonight.

And by the way, I think the top is better than people are saying here. I also like that its not power. Less things to break and saves weight.

kersh4w
06-30-2008, 10:25 PM
no, it really is that bad. i replaced the convertible top (will never do that again, nor do i recommend it) on my previous car. im keenly aware of fitment on tops now.

that wrinkling on the trailing edge is just horrible. thats just downright bad engineering.

That is a great car that you bought. I got the chance to test the acceleration of my 8 against a Redline Sky about six months ago, and it was almost as fast as the 8 on that day. If I were in the market for a convertible, I would be plunking down the money right behind you. Nice deal too! Enjoy.

Watch out for theives .......don't leave your car parked in some ghetto area... :) Convertibles are like easy target for them....unless you have a hard top...

That is a beautiful car along with the solstice, America finally got it right. Great HP and Torque plus fuel mileage to put the RX to shame.

The only downside is 2 seats (if you need 4) and no storage space. Also a little heavy for a 2 seater but no more so then a Z-4.

Nice car and for a great price, great choice overall.

Enjoy!

Let us know your gripes with the Sky too.

Pros:

260hp
Fast:Eyecrazy:
Great Looking
Top-Down Action
Great Sound System
Clamshells
Quiet believe it or not
Relatively Rare
Great on Gas 19/28

Cons:

Very little storage in cabin (which is fine because that's what the Civic is for)
Miniscule Trunk (which is fine because that's what the Civic is for)
Pretty much no trunk with top down (which is fine because that's what the Civic is for)

That's it for now... will update later!

Actually it's probably doable...provided he doesn't use bottom heads on his toms or base drum....all those drums fit quite nicely inside each other....the real PITA is the freaking hardware :banghead: now if he's running a "Bonhamesq" double bass cage type trap kit.....that shit won't work.

All of my heads are on :). Just a basic 5-piece Tama Rockstar classic. The bass, floor tom, snare, and pedal case fit in the back seats. The 2 toms, cymbal bag, throne, and hardware bag go in the trunk. Yes, the hardware bag is a bitch, I already scuffed up the top of my rear bumper and put a tear in the weatherstripping :banghead:. There are actually quite rare here in Greensboro. It's kinda crazy. Drove by the Saturn lot yesterday... they still have a bunch chillin' outside.

Fine by me. :)

And Kane, surprisingly... they handle very similiar. Their curb weight is VERY close and they came stock with the same size rubber than the Kuhmo's I put on my RX-8. The wheels are heavy though... 26lbs! I'm considering Silver U-leggeras next year. :)

You should take one for a spin.... I'm NOT saying trade in your Turbo 8!!! Just check it out. There are similarities.

It was my first choice - but Saturn wouldn't play nice with my deployed soldier-ness. So I said screw 'em; and then Kimi found the 8. But I have always been curious if I woulda liked it.

If you have a curious eye, you should go check them out. They are still interest free until Monday... That includes the GXP...

Saw a silver Sky today. I prefer it over the Solstice. But both are the few better products from GM. They have not interest me to the point of test driving them. However from what I've read the MX-5 despite having less hp, is the better driver's car. Something about more cohesive driving experience etc....

RojoOcho
07-05-2008, 07:06 PM
It's funny you say that because there are Professional Japanese Drivers that prefer the Kappa over the MX-5. They are both great cars though.

Anyway, I came to post a small gripe. I do wish the brakes had a better feel to them. I think I was spoiled by the RX-8. Just being real. :)

I test drove one of these before I ended up buying my Mazda RX-8.

The only version they had in Kona was auto as the the manual models they were over at the Hilo dealership.

I thought the 260 hp was a bit optimistic. The interior fit and finish wasn't up to japanese standards.

My past history with Mazda probably was a factor.

^ +1. Some people here enjoy reading a former 8 owners experience with a new ride. Some can even exist on several forums whether they own the car for that particular forum or not - go figure. Then there are always others just act like d-bags.

oh well, it is the internet.
