anyone know what the advantages of having a horizontally mounted intercooler??
to me it seems like it would get less air flow so it wouldnt be able to cool the engine as well as a vertically mounted one would

If it's vented out the bottom of the bumper it could have lots of airflow, without blocking the rad......

Airflow is airflow. As long as the intercooler gets it, it'll do it's job. If it's lying down, it needs to have special ducting to direct air to it effectively. Without a duct, it isn't doing much good. If I were laying an intercooler down, I'd duct it from the bottom. This way natural convention currents would pull hot air up away from it when the car isn't moving.

That's called a V-mount. The radiator is slanted opposite to it below it and is no longer mounted as it is stock. The air splits between the intercooler and the radiator. The air through the radiator goes out the bottom of the car and the air through the intercooler goes out the vents in the hood. With this setup you do not have an intercooler blocking airflow to the radiator. Don't worry about proper airflow to each. It works great. I've always been a fan of V-mounts. They just take some effort to fabricate as there are no kits to do this.

Yeah, if you're willing to take everything out of the engine bay and reshape/remount it, you can put the intercooler in all sorts of places so long as you channel air to it.

by horizontal do you mean like a top mounted intercooler? or is this physically horizontal front mount?
