I will be keepin' the 8 at home! No, I will not get rid of it because of fuel! I will be picking up my Scott Speedster S60 today. I will be pedal powering it the 8 mile round trip to and from work. I did my research and have found that this cycle is the best bang for the buck and I will quickly recoup my cost. Will not have a 3 year period of waiting to break even. I know that cycling isn't possible for everyone but, it works for me. The S60 will park nicely next to my Rocky Mountain Fusion hardtail mountain bike.
This will help in so many ways. Its an option for alot of people. Hell, drive your car with your bike and park a few miles from work. Its more about fitness than fuel.

Take it easy ladies and gents (I use the term ladies loosely as I'm sure you burp, fart and curse more than myself) and maybe I will see a few of you tonight at Starbucks. I'm appoximately 3 miles from there.

I can get about 220 miles out of a tank in City driving. about 40 bux per fill up now on regular gas. @ 4.19

but of course like I said b4, driving the Honda FIT's fun factor is ... Zero. :(

Once you've driven the 8... you'll need to move to something like M3 territory and up to get a "potentially" better driving experience. And even up there.. some cars are questionable :) :) :)

Ok, just picked it up. Its actually a Scott Speedster S50, not 60. Feel pretty good about the deal. Msrp is 849. Got it for $569. I figure 4 miles shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes since I was already cycling anyway.

i take the bus 3 times a week Ü good thing we have an express bus that stops just 2 blocks away from work. looks good for now since there's no school. i'm expecting worse come school time. might have to think of an alternative by that time.

i drive at least 50 miles a day for work... I seriously don't know how much more I can justify owning this car since I am paying about 4.40 a gallon and I have lots of other stuff going on... This sucks.

My daily driver was a souped-up Cummins Diesel powered Dodge 3/4 ton pick-up. It weighs 8,200 lbs and will run 12.3 in the qtr mile. Needless to say, I could watch the fuel gauge drop on my daily drive. Fun…yeah, but killing me. It was all city driving too. Once diesel fuel hit $4.25 per gallon, I was dropping $150+ every two weeks just for the 6 miles one way to work. So, I picked up the RX8 looking for something that would give me the same amount of enjoyable driving, with better economy. Now I'm burning $42 in mid-grade every two weeks for the same trip, plus all of my general running around during the week. I love it. The money saved on fuel more than covers the little bit of a payment that I have. Lets not talk about insurance though. The truck only comes out when the boat needs a tow to the lake. Life is good.

In most cases, it will cost you more to replace the RX8 or add a second vehicle. Unless that other vehicle is not gas powered.

So again I say - Cool move to keep the 8, and the fitness bit is always good as well.

If I lived closer to Ft. Sam Houston, I would be doing this now.... but getting up for PT and being there by 0550, living 15+ miles away, AND cycling would be hell.... I think I'd have to leave like an hour early, rather than my standard 30 mins which gets me there 10 mins early following speed limits ><

Plus, I'm sure I'd get hit by some A-hole in San Antonio

i would think an old motorcycle with only liability insurance would make up for the gas fast.
bike = 10 cent ish a mile
rx8 = 25 cent ish a mile

assuming daily commute of 18 miles each way.

bike = $3.6
rx8 = $9

so everyday you save about 6 bucks.
20 workdays a month, save $120 a month.. assuming u don't travel during the weekend. someone with a bike want to pitch in how much liability insurance on a 2 year old 250 cc bike is? so u would save about maybe $50 a month + now having a bike to boot =D...

now maybe i should just keep driving my rx8... don't sound like much lol...

its a 60 mile round trip. hopefully this semester wont be as bad as my previous semesters, where i commuted 5 days a week. gas prices shot high enough so that it cost $12/day in gas. :/

Well, I just 'fixed' my MPG issue... kinda... just bought a new '08 Ninja 250R. Unfortionately, I do not have a Motocycle DL, and being military, don't have the safety class needed. Good news is, even though I don't know how to ride a bike, the military WILL pay for me to learn :D.

Either way, I'm gonna spend more 'bills' money, but save my 'allowance' b/c of gas. me and my wife's finances are weird... and we will leave it at that :P

All the meals you have to eat out on the road since you'll never make it home in time to cook dinner, all the electrolyte fluids you are drinking, all the energy bars you are munching, all the vitamins and glucosamine + MSM + hyaluronic acid supplements you are taking to keep your joints for getting taken out like an apex seal. All the protein recovery and extra carbs you will be consuming.

It is much more expensive than driving rx8.

Per mile, human eats like $5 worth of calories and carbs. Per mile, rx8 eats like 35 cents of gas, assuming 14 mpg and $5/gallon.

i just had my first fillup the other day since i bought my car. It was 56$ to fill the tank 3/4 of the way. It hurt...but it comes with the territory of the car being so fun to drive. I bought the car knowing this so..meh what am i gonna do~

I drive about 60 miles a day, 2 30-ish mile round trips (to and from Ft. Sam for PT, then work), besides, the wife and I wanted to get bikes, so we got me a 250R, and hers has a deposit on the next one that comes in. dispite what people are saying about them, people weighing a good 50lbs heavier than me, are getting up to the mid 90's on these bikes. While yes, my RX8 can almost beat it to 60 MPH, and probably beat it in the 1/4 mile, I look forward to driving the 250R as it will be both fun, and cheeper to fill. While my 8 will be regulated to recreational driving mostly, I have found a place in my heart for that car that will never be filled.

well, the money you arent spending on gas for your turbo 8 can be saved up for a turbo kit :P

bike first seems the smartest way to go, otherwise you will be spending all you money after you get the turbo on gas, atleast with a bike you can save on gas (vs. turbo RX8) when its nice out.

Even though with your reply you obviosly have some intelligence, that by far is the most thought out uneducated reply I have ever read. I wish for only half the 30 seconds of my life I wasted reading it, back. I made it to work this morning in 14 mins! I eat my normal healthy meals and take my mega mens sport vitamins. I leave work at 4:30pm and that leaves plenty of time to cook my pregnant girlfriend a delicious healthy dinner of example; Italion chicken, steamed squash and spinich. You DO NOT NEED many of the supplements outthere. Hence the word supplement. Eat a wide variety and take care of yourself by not smoking and drinking moderately. I'm no stranger to Jager my friend, we shared many moments friday night. Mic ultra and I are friends too. I have always taken care of myself. I maintain an active lifestyle which allows me to count my abs and maintain a 143lb, 6% body fat, 5'5" frame.
