View Full Version : RX-8, and new RX-7: When?
DonG35Miata 12-31-2002, 01:37 AM A quick visit to the BMW message boards brought back memories of my unreliable, undependable E36 3-series BMW that I traded for my Miata. I'm going to forget the Z4, keep my Miata, and hope the RX-8 excites me. I'm still first on the list at my dealership...
That said, I don't HAVE to get another car- I can wait a year or two for the new RX-7 (preferably a convertible...)
If it is going to be longer than that, I'll probably just snag an RX-8 this year. Has anyone heard when the new RX-7 is likely to be introduced? I know Mazda is mum on it, but the eagle-eyed members of this forum must have caught something... :)
wakeech 12-31-2002, 01:57 AM speculation has been anywhere from 2004-2005, to never-again...
next Tuesday the 7th, Mazda will be unveiling some super-mysterious ultra-top-secret concept car along with the RX-8 at the NAIAS... hmmmmmmmmmm... hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm indeed...
RotorMotor 12-31-2002, 01:57 AM IF there is an RX-7 it's likely to be an '05 model....
max_stirling 12-31-2002, 08:56 AM Motor Trend is estimating 2006 for the RX-7.

unemployedpimp 12-31-2002, 09:16 AM so if its a 2005 model it should be out by 2004! just like the rx-8
its a 2004 model and its coming in 2003! llama!

That would be my guess.
If the RX-8 is sucessful, they can do a lot of things depending on what the mystery car is in Detroit.
1. RX-8(RX-7 like) with two seats that is superfast and can be a convertable!
2. RX-8 convertable
Maybe all the above.
With all the money on the RX-8 and Ford accountants, I would assume anything similar to the RX-7 would use a lot of the RX-8.

cueball 12-31-2002, 02:37 PM It coming out in 2005 as a 2006 model is more realistic. If there was a convertible in the works it would most likely come out a few years later. Lets hope that miata keeps on chugging.

Let's see:
Protege...5
Mazda...6
RX...8
Missing a certain number, aren't we? Mazda HAS to complete their line up by filling in the sequence. Many companies use gimmick dates all the time to roll out new products. If next Tuesday is the day of days, especially for us rotary fans, then what better day than...the 7th. It's a perfect plan, should it become the day we've all been waiting for.
Keeping my fingers crossed harder than ever,

That is a great bit of speculation regardling the date of the intro. I will cross my fingers as well. If it is a RX-7 prototype, I will get to see it when I arrive in Detriot for the show on the 18-19.
