I have an extensive program at home that will tell me that, but you'll have to wait 'til I'm off work to get to it.

Why the specific time/date though? If you're worried about the end of the world, I can assure you there haven't been any calculations that pinpoint it to that date yet. :p:

Getting your Winter Solistice preparations in order?

No, no...probably celebrating the end of the Mayan calender!

As for the sun...odds are that it will still be in the center of our solar system. Unless you know something we don't :uhh:

Kari, my planetarium program is on my home computer also, but if memory serves, the sun is in Sagittarius at the time of the winter solstice.

Oh, Dom's talking about the Mayan "end of days" date, I believe. Don't worry Dom, I'm sure we'll be just fine on that date. :D:

Below and rising with Venus on 12/21/12, however, is Antares, a red super giant. If the star goes supernova while rising with Venus that morning, it might look like we had two suns. This could be what they're referring to. If I remember my past readings correctly, they may had witnessed a supernova in the vincinity back then as well, which is why they might be marking the calendar as an important date.

Another possibility is the magnetic pole shift. In that year the sun's magnetic poles should be shifting again (currently its north pole is located in its south pole--the shift generally occurs every 11 years). During the shift it could possibly pull the earth's magnetic field with it. As to the specifics of what would happen if that did occur, is all speculation.

What's an amituer?

Amituers are the astromers that look at the sky through a telaskope.

Oh wow  :dunce: So can you tell me what the Planet alignment will be? Cus if the Planets are in perfect alignment at the time of the Solor Eclipse, will it cause a hyperbole between the Moon and the Planets and I'm trying to see where and when it will hit Earth Muhahaaa!
K thanks :smoker:
