Will there be any noticable difference in handling. 2mm doesn't seem like much to me, but after trying out 18x8.5 with +40 I don't want to take any chances, as those tires made my car handle like arse.

I went to a 45+ MM offset, and I haven't noticed any handling differences at all, but you were probably looking for a more scientific response. :)

I have a chance to buy a set of volk wheels from my brother off of his S2000. The +49 offset, 18x7.5 in front and 18x8 in the rear. The front have 225 and rear 245.

Just want to know if these wheels will fit the RX8 as I would love to take them off my brothers hands if they will.

My 255 35 r20's fit ok. a 245 18" 49+ offset will fit just fine, as long as you have the 5x4.5(114.3) lug pattern and around the 45 series sidewall. 245 45 r18 is the size of the stock tires.

Fitment and functionality are there, as to the disparate impact of tire size changes have on performance, there has been much controversy involved with it, and I would suggest a search on the existing strings.

Another thing to keep in mind is the TPMS system, if you're going to integrate it, or kill the dash light, etc. etc.

The amount of sway you have with the offset is dependant on the style of wheel you are using. sometimes 2mm won't make a difference other times it will collide with your rotors. it really depends ong the shape of the spokes on the individual wheel. also keep in mind, the lower you make the offset the wide you make the tire track. when you increase the distance between the wheels you normally change the handling for the worse.
The S2000 and the RX8 have similar wheel specifications but the RX8 has larger brakes that require more clearance in both width and height. the information i have shows they will not fit correctly. the center bore is the same, the bolt circle is the same, offset and brake clearance are about 5-8 mm different.

I'm assuming the information you have also states my 20 x8.5 w/ 255 35 r 20's won't fit, too.

I would strongly suggest test fitting them if it's an option, sometimes with newer vehicles data isn't always the greatest (small statistical samples, limited actual fitments, etc.).

Connor's comment is very helpful, though, there may be aspects that may hurt your handling, keep in mind your personal preferences (if you're willing to make minor performance sacrifices such as a wider stance for looks, etc.) when deciding on the purchase, and make sure you look at all the possible information available.

i run a 48 right now and unless you are the greatest technical driving expert in the world i doubt you would notice a thing. its 2mm sort of hard to notice anything on 2mm.
