Mazda Dealer ask me "Why would your rev up to 6.5-7k?"

Edit note: Sorry, I was so pissed of and confused so I did not explain clearly + alot of misspell.

I dropped my 04 rx-8 MT off yesterday for CEL sometimes blinking at higt rev and engine lose power.

First thing which seem wrong was Mazda dealer (Somewhere in NorCal) did not know that my 8 has 96 months/100,000 miles extend warranty.

The job order qoute for check engine light and perform all recall, MSP 16 and so on. They write down car is in 60 months warranty.

Mazda dealer called me just now. To inform me the car is done.
That when whole thing happened.

Here is the conversation....

Mazda: Your car is ready. When will you picking it up?
Me: Tomorrow. Any cost?
Mazda: "Nothing wrong. Your car is fine... Why would you rev up so high?
Me: Excuse me????
Mazda: "Why would you rev up to 6.5-7k? You are not suppose to do that."
Me: Are you kidding me? (I almost say )
Mazda: "That what happened when you rev up too high."
Me: I am not happy with your question and I will talk to your manager. (I was confused so I just said that... I regret that I should yell at them)
Mazda: So when would you pick your car up?
Me: Tomorrow. Bye >>>Hang up

I love my 8 but there goes my brand royalty.
What should I do with them.........................?

I forget to ask them if they flash my PCM or not.

Any recomment dealer around San Francisco Bay Area.

ps. If you wanna post something funny, go ahead. That should make me calm a bit down. But please leave some answer for me too. I really need help.

Not suppose to do that ? wtf ?

Wow ... Im surprise ... First off, obviously this person, perhaps the whole dealership ? does not know **** about Rotary engines. You might want to stay away from them forever.

Then, ok, Tell him to explain why you should not rev up to 6.5-7k. 7 K ? urs is AT or something ?

Just tell him I want my car back, cuz u guys dont know **** about cars. bye.

even if it is AT, it still needs the high revs.

My question would be, does that mean if the engine isn't fine that you should rev to 6.5-7k?

You might want to walk his little fanny over to the showroom and pick up a RX-8 brochure where they brag about the 9000 rpm redline.

God what a bunch of morons, stupid ppl **** me off so much...

The renesis engine is capable of more than 9k rpm, the only reason the limit is either 9 or 7.5k is because the trannies can't take it. Max HP is only reached at 8.5k in the manual, and 7.5k in the auto. And oh wait... max power for the auto is only reached.. at redline!

If you're not supposed to do that, then they wouldn't LET you do that. I think the engineers that designed the engine and defined it's limits know better than a bunch of car salesmen.

Those dealership ppl are basically stating that they don't have faith in the product they're selling (you should tell them and especially the customer service surveyor that), which either means that they're cheating ppl by selling them what they believe is a faulty product; or that they don't know what they're talking about. And we all know here that the correct answer is the second option.

I'd never go back to that dealership if I were you, hopefully you're not in the same boat I am where the dealership I take the car to is the only one within 200 miles. I guess I'm lucky that the guy in charge of mazda service is one of the best service guys I've ever dealt with.

Was it modesto mazda? I took my car in there because of a transmission problema and I had a mazda speed cold air system. They told me that the intake was casing a vacume leak wich was causing my "Clutch" problem. I told the lady that I didnt bring in a volkswagen beetle and the clutch doesnt run off of a vacum line. I took it to stocton mazda which I shouldve done in the first place since I bought my car there, it turns out that some how the outer housing for my transmission cracked. They fixed it under warrenty to my amazment.

Doesn't the guy in charge at SLO own a RX-8 himself? I think I remember him posting on this forum. Maybe under the handle "otherside"?

Don't condemn the whole dealership due to one in-experienced, ignorant, poorly trained service writer. I would chat with the manager and inquire as to why your time was wasted with no proper diagnosis being performed on your car.

Paul.

Paul.
I picked my car up already. Also I had a little chat with the service manager. He seems to understand rotary engine more than other tech around there since he owns RX-7. He did apologize.

However, I still believe how carelessly my local dealer is.
Yesterday, I pulled my OEM intake out to replace with K&N V2.
I discovered oil in intake and half of OEM paper filter is wet.

When I picked up the car, dealer report paper said they have checked everything, including the filter, and there is no need to replace. Also MAF sensor is covered in oil. No wonder why my engine sometimes shows CEL and had bad gas mileage for my last two tanks.

Seems like pulling stock OEM filter out is not so easy for RX-8, I guess Mazda untrained tech did not know how to perform and skip that.
Also the report paper mentions that all lightings were checked and were ok. Well, I did not install any bulb in my clear corner (I am waiting for my led). How can all lighting system be ok?

Eventually, I had found the problem and fixed it by myself.
What my local dealer did was only performed MSP16.

wow, im glad that my mazda service dept, is actually really good. the main service advisor i deal with knows alot about the RX-8 and shes keeps up with all the updates. also she LISTENS to my concerns and what i think may be the problem. i cant tell you how much that means to me. i hate nothing more, then when i talk to a service advisor who doesnt listen.

to be honest, i only had one incident there. i brought my 8 in for a basic oil change, and the guy performing the service just changed my oil and filter. didnt check anything, didnt even bother to check report form that they give you. anyway, i knew i needed a little clutch fluid added, so as soon as i got my car back i checked it right there on the lot. long story short i told my advisor about what he didnt do, and they offered my next oil change for free.

maybe you should post the name of the dealership so people will know to be careful, or at least to have a look-over of the car themselves after getting routine work done there. this doesn't necessarily reflect on mazda, since all the dealers are independently owned franchises. and like paul said, this doesn't even necessarily reflect on that dealer 'cuz it might just be that one tech who may also have worked on your car. but if it were me, i'd never go back there again
