After a couple of years of trying Raceway Park (http://www.etownraceway.com/) finally is getting ready to open their road course (http://www.etownraceway.com/main/roadcourse/index.htm)and is letting people drive on it for FREE this weekend. I plan on going there this Sunday. Driving the twisty’s is what the RX-8 was made for and how can you beat free! I think they are doing this to get the word of mouth out because Thunderbolt Raceway (http://www.njmotorsportspark.com/) in south Jersey is going to open up this summer and is getting all the attention of most of the clubs. The track at Englishtown is smaller, but it is in a better location, why not??

Raceway Park Brings Chris Winter On-board, Director of Operations at the Facility’s New Road Course

Englishtown, NJ May 20, 2008 – For road racing enthusiasts, the long wait is finally over, and Old Bridge
Township Raceway Park is ready to officially unveil their new road course to the public. The road course is
1.35 miles, and a minimum of 40' wide, save for the 1,400 ft straightaway which measures 50' wide. Some
highlights of the track include a 90 degree right turn, a 16 degree banked left turn, and a mini corkscrew.
To oversee operations at the road course, Raceway Park is proud to announce that they have hired longtime
instructor, and former Nascar Craftsman Truck Series racer Chris Winter. Chris has been an instructor for
various road racing series since he was 18 years old, and now has the privilege of being the mentor for new
instructors with the Performance Drivers Association.
“I want to thank Michael Napp and Kevin Markland for the opportunity to provide New Jersey with a premiere
road racing circuit. Raceway Park has been recognized as a world class drag racing facility for over 40 years,
and with the addition of the new 1.35 mile road course, Raceway Park will continue to be one of the top multi-
motorsport facilities in the nation,” remarked Chris Winter, the facility’s new Road Course Director.
The new road course is now available for track rentals, driving schools, and more. It makes for a great
corporate team building event, track time for a car club, or simply a group of friends that want to hone their
driving skills.
To celebrate the official opening of the road course, Raceway Park will be opening it to the public for free lap
time over the course of three days, June 6th, 7th, and 8th. For more information on how to be a part of this
special event, please stay tuned to our website at www.racewaypark.com. See you at the road course!

Thanks for posting!

Any idea if you can go solo on the track? Or it will be a fun run of sorts together with other cars? I'd rather do solo runs (or at least have 20 cars length difference from other cars) so I wouldn't deal with rock chips, possible contact, and having to forcefully go faster and stressing the car (yeah I'm picky).

i'm gonna go tomorrow.
you need helmets:
Minimum requirements: helmet, shirt with sleeves like a t-shirt not a tank top, long pants and closed shoes like sneakers not sandles.

i think they will put instructors in EVERY car and space them out with only like 6 cars on the track at a time.

i instructed like 3 people. at the end, we instructors had it to ourselves. only like 4 instructors on the track. the car felt great even though it was on street tires. videos tonight.
the track is interesting. like a big autocross. too many places to hit a wall. big dip in pavement at the end of the straight. every single turn is a late apex. very very very late apex. but any day on a track is a good day!
