View Full Version : Sport Exhaust II
Now that the cars are coming through has anybody taken the sports exhaust option??
I need to decide and am receiving mixed information about increased output (or not), better noise (over 7k revs?) and larger bore (extra 11/2 inches diameter?).
Any owner out there with the real facts.

mr_digital_uk 11-17-2003, 01:46 PM No first hand experience, but my dealer said (unprompted) that it did not increase power output and was primarily just a different noise
Harrizone 11-17-2003, 03:02 PM rael,
Look here to see a report from Chris who has 1k on the clock.

I'm a sucker for improved sound effects, but I've got to wait until next year as the sports exhausts are on back order.
Rael, whats your dealer said about availability?
18ME
I have had nothing to suggest its not actually in stock with the dealer.
rael
Was in stock but ordered for me.

Picking my car up tonight, so I'll ask them then exactly how long delivery will be on the sports exhaust, as I want it NOW.
RX-Late 11-20-2003, 06:38 AM My dealers demo car has the sports exhaust fitted. Doesn't seem to have any effect at all!
In effect, do you mean in both performance and sound?
Goose 11-20-2003, 07:17 AM My dealer has it installed also. Says no improvement in power OR noise!
Waste of time.
Rubbish, there has to be an difference somewhere otherwise why offer it. Visually its bore is much large, it has a difference note above 4k revs and my dealer thinks it also has a impact on performance. The exhaust is a complete new system all the way from the egine with one less box, something has to happen.

Goose 11-20-2003, 08:26 AM Rael,
Hey, i'd agree with you, but i'm just repeating what my dealer has said to me, i haven't seen it, let alone driven it. But they have and that was their summary!?
RobDickinson 11-20-2003, 08:29 AM I dont know why people are rushing in for this.
Within a few months there will be better, cheaper 3rd party exauhsts available. Why buy this one now?
Mazda producrt made to fit onto Mazda car covered under Mazda warranty.
Be careful before you mess with the exhaust if not Mazda sponsored. could negatively impact performance.
rael
Goose,
I understand, my dealer suggest otherwise and common sense dictates so too but price may be a big punt to take. I have because I believe there is a diffence.
rael
Just spoke to another dealer part department who confirmed that little difference in output although may see improvments once engine has bedded down after about 5k, visually bigger and certain noise difference.

Goose 11-20-2003, 09:31 AM what are the prices of the both the sports exhaust (Mazda) and the Borla one (including shipping)?
I realise the warranty issue.
Think I'll wait for the raft of aftermarket stuff to come along...
