don't bother....you need an EMU too...plus I'm sure the turbo will last about 3K miles. For FI you gotta pay to play. It's always going to be expensive.

You pay for what you get. The GReddy kit is the cheapest way to go (~$3800) and ask any GReddy RX8 owner about the quality and life of the kit.

 

don't knock the greddy kit.. it's fine if you don't exceed the design parameters (i.e. don't try to crank it up to 10psi)

 

Owners tell me the bearings in it are worthless and the longest it'll last is about 2 years before it needs to be replaced/rebuilt. I'm not really knocking the GReddy kit (at this point I'd kill to have one) but from what owners tell me the kit in stock trim leaves much to be desired.

 

you get what you pay for... if you don't want to live with journal bearings and rebuilds (2 years is a high estimate afaik), then shell out the cash for a ball bearing turbo

 

Well, first off (IMHO) the words "cheap" and "turbo" really shouldn't go in the same sentence.

2nd: "universal" turbo scares me. Our cars don't fit into the norm when it comes to making FI products (just ask Paul at AFSC)

3rd: making a manifold won't be fun (or cheap) and then you still need to find someone to make the downpipe, and THEN hope you can tune this turbo.

My honest advice: don't do it. Too many 'unknowns' there. Might it work? Maybe, but is the risk worth the potential gain? Probably not...
Up to you though.
If you're looking for some quick HP, I'd suggest a Nitrous.

 

More money spent up front = less headaches down the road... in most cases.

If you really want a turbo I would suggest looking at MM's kit. If you're looking for cheaper speed I'd suggest BHR's nitros kit.

The only "universal" item I've purchased off ebay were leds.

 

GReddy turbo runs fine at 10 psi. Just don't expect it to hold it there to redline.

As bad as that sounds, even the MS3 faces similar issues.

The problem with the greddy kit is 1. Fuel management system (The AP is superior in every way), and 2. Type of turbo, journal bearings are teh suq.

 

if my 86 isuzu trooper was fuel injected i would buy that kit and see what it would do, lol.
