My trunk lid edge has paint peeling off in 4 spots. Its all on teh corner spots. I dont know what to do i hope my dealer will fix it.

There should be no "hope" about it - if the paint is peeling it should be covered by the warranty. Make sure they give you a rental car for the entire time that the car is in for the repair, too.

ECCLES is right, there is no "hope" here, they have no choice but to fix it....The problem is your dealer in NJ, while you are in florida!

do you mean the exterior paint or inside the trunk lid

I don’t want the thing to rust. Also yes it’s the exterior pant that’s peeling there’s 4 spots on the trunk lid and 4 spots on the taillights. The whole thing is I am 19 I am not old enough to get a rental, so if they decide to fix the car I might just tell them to do it when I am in NJ for Christmas. Well thanks guys for the help.

P.s if they decide not to fix my car my jersey ness might have to come out:D and bitch at them till they fix it.

somebody bumped your car or you bumped someone. it (the bumping) pushed the the rear up causing the paint to chip in the areas that touched.

Is this the "slamming to boot lid too hard" thing? Still, it shouldn't be possible to damage the paint - if it's the cause, it's still a desgin problem.

where i park there are no other cars that would hit me I think. But I do know that i did not hit anyone. 2 years of driving no tickets or points or accidents( knock on wood) Knock knock.

I strongly suspect that your trunk lid was damaged and repainted. The edges are the most likely to chip first. Check carefully for signs of a repaint elsewhere in the area. The damage and repair may have been done at port. As I recall, they're only required to tell us if they actually replace a body panel. Have you ever seen those magnetic things about the size of a pen that check for Bondo filler under the paint? I can't remember what auto supply stores I've seen them in. Perhaps someone else in the forum can help. Bummer!

Also, if the dealer loans you a car, there might not be the same age restriction as with a rental company. I'd work that angle!

if worste comes to worste ill just take it in to there body shop when im home for winter break.

I have the peeling paint spots under my trunk too. One on each corner side of the trunk near where u open it. I had them when i bought the car. I really didn't notice them till i bought the car home. Curious, what color is your car and do you have the spoiler? My car is black and i have the spoiler. I just bought touch up paint and decided to fix the problem myself.

I think mine was caused when at the port they installed the spoiler. I also noticed that where the paint was peeling it looked like it was pointed in the spot, like something was forced down into the metal from the spoiler.

Question? The paint under my trunk, around the area, is cheap thin flat paint. Not the some shiny glossy paint found in my door jams. Is this the same for everyone else?

yeap i have teh spots right on teh corner spots.I have blue and no spoiler.

I also noticed ur from NJ just like me. I wonder if both of our cars came from the same port\batch. Maybe something they did at the port. Mine does look like it could of been repainted underneath.

Could this be a case of repairs made to the panels that were damaged during shipping or at the port? Maybe some dings were filled up and resprayed without thorough preparation of the surface.

i got my car aug 24 03 from crystal mazda in greenbrook.

could you post some pictures of these paint issues?

I noticed my red rx8 has the same flat, non-shiny paint under the hood and trunk.

I thought it was a little odd.

I have noticed that, too. I've noticed with Mercedes and BMW, the paint is very nice in those areas. I don't remember about other Japanese cars.
