I am looking to buy an RX-8 and I heard that the engine only last for about 80,000 miles, also have heard that the engines cost about $800. Can someone tell me if this is true or not.

 

i might be wrong on this one but if engines costed only about 800 then id have one in my room, one in my garage, and maybe 2 or 3 as house decorations. they prob will run you more about 2k or more depending on what you want. look into the for sale vendors to see their prices

 

You heard wrong my friend, If you properly maintain the engine, it will last well over 100K.

 

There is many guys on here that have well over 100k on their original motors without any major trouble. I'm sure they will b around to put in their 2 cents soon

 

Wrong not all properly maintained engines will last well over 100k. I own i 2004 rx8 and my first engine lasted 30k and then my second motor lasted 35k and now i am on my third motor. I properly maintained my car and engines still went on me. I changed the oil and oil filter every 3k. The first motor i beat to hell and the second motor i babied.

Thats strange ive beaten my engine to hell and back and its on its way back to hell once more haha

NEVER HADa single engine problem.. ive had electrical, tranny, and AC issues but no engine things went wrong with mine.. also every 10K miles I due a engine clean and put the fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank every 3k miles..

the car has now 45K miles and is running really strong

i use royal purple 5w-30 been using it since i had 20K miles

just drive the car but make sure the oil is topped I NEVER liek it being in the middle its always topped off but thats just me

did they tell you why the engine failed??

 

Maintained mine as well. 30k and it was done.

Bank 3 lean error code. I was told it was carbon buildup that caused it.

 

28K and still going strong. Last one had 57K I think. I cant recall. But yeah some have over 60K and track there 8's too!
